As part of our NAIDOC Week initiatives earlier this week, the UNIFIED Music Group team had the privilege of hearing from the Bush Music Fund, who have today announced three incredible First Nations artists with whom they are working alongside from remote parts of the country. The Bush Music Fund has now revealed its partnership with Ripple Effect, Mulga Bore Hard Rock, and James Range Band. The Bush Music Fund team was a well-deserving recipient of the UNIFIED Grant last year, and we are incredibly proud to see today’s announcement. We are excited to support these artists as they continue to develop their careers. Ripple Effect is an all-women's band from Maningrida in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. While following the tradition of saltwater rock from the Top End, they are breaking new ground and creating a unique sound as the first women from their community to play instruments and form their own band. They sing in the languages of their people—Ndjébbana, Burarra, Na-kara, and Kune—and have powerful stories to share about their land, languages, and culture. Mulga Bore Hard Rock is a six-piece band from the remote central Australian desert community of Akaye, located two hours northeast of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. This group of teenagers, aged 14-19, from the hot, dry desert, bring their own style of hard rock. Not just any kind of hard rock, they play GLAM hard rock. The James Range Band is an epic reggae/rock band, comprised of family members from the small community of Utju, 250 km west of Alice Springs. They sing in Pitjantjatjara and English, with songs about country and community. Thank you also to Colin Hunter Jnr Jnr from Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation who welcomed us during this week's all team meeting. As a perfect end to the week, Dan Sultan is on his way to selling out his NAIDOC Week Celebration shows with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. It comes as Dan celebrates 10 years since releasing his ‘Blackbird’ album, and will play two full rooms at Hamer Hall in Melbourne this Friday and Saturday. UNIFIED Music Group is proud to support NAIDOC and recognise the importance of this significant milestone in the Australian calendar.

Thank you to the team at All About Music for inviting me to speak at this year’s conference. The growth in India’s streaming market right now is undeniable, with over 1 trillion on-demand music streams in 2023, and according to data provided by Luminate, is now predicted to become the world’s largest music streaming territory by volume by the end of this year. Representing Australian talent and exporting into markets such as India will continue to a be focus for me, and I’m excited to head to Mumbai in August and to talk about how we are continuing to invest in the careers of artists.

Last night The Rions played the final leg of their completely sold out Australian ‘Sweet Cocoons Tour’ at the Metro Theatre in Sydney, and I was lucky enough to see this high energy show at Melbourne’s 170 Russell….twice!   Each night, 1100 people packed into the Russell street night club where fans sang every song at the top of their lungs, right back at the 20 year olds hailing from Sydney’s Northern Beaches.    The Rions’ success did not happen overnight. UNIFIED signed the band to a management agreement back in 2020 and since then, the band has won Triple J - ABC’s prestigious Unearthed High competition, posted multiple songs in the Hottest 100, and toured non-stop in and around high school schedules.   Now with school behind them, there is nothing but excitement about the future for this promising young band. If their new single ‘Sweet Cocoon’ (released via Community Music) is any insight into what’s to come over the next year, then you can expect big things.   UNIFIED works every day to invest in talent and build careers. Whilst it’s never been easy to make it in the music industry, The Rions are proof that anything is possible and I’m excited to be a part of their continued success as they head off on their European tour from August.    Huge congrats to Steve de Wilde based in our UNIFIED Music Group Sydney office, who has managed the band since 2020 and been there every step of the way.
