Making NSW a better place to live, work and visit.

About us

We’re a New South Wales government organisation leading the group of transport agencies and divisions that keep NSW moving. With over 25,000 people working right across NSW, we drive the continual development of safe, integrated and efficient transport systems such as road, rail and maritime networks. We’re committed to delivering better transport for the future of NSW, shaping our cities, centres and communities for generations to come. Right now, we’re delivering an ambitious and once-in-a-generation $72.2 billion program of public infrastructure works – the largest transport infrastructure program in Australia’s history. That means more job opportunities than ever before in metropolitan and regional areas right across the state – and your chance to make a lasting impact that will benefit generations to come. If you think Transport for NSW is home only to engineers, tradies and mechanics, think again. We've got roles you may not expect to see at Transport – from drone operators to graphic designers, Crash Lab technicians to boating safety officers, bridge engineers to demand planners, and all kinds of experts in between. In an organisation that’s as large, diverse and dynamic as Transport for NSW, there are thousands of opportunities. But it’s not just about what we do – it’s the way that we do it. We’re taking a new approach to the way we work. We’re embracing new technology and new ways of working. We’re building an open work culture where our people from a diverse range of backgrounds can thrive and continue to innovate. The road ahead is full of possibility and there’s plenty of work to do. We need great people to help us get it done.

We are currently collaborating with the local Aboriginal community, organisations and individuals to gather Wiradjuri name suggestions for the New Dubbo Bridge. We have had some really thoughtful nominations so far. The Wiradjuri names suggested will be shortlisted by representatives from the local Aboriginal community. The wider Dubbo community will then be invited to give feedback on the shortlisted Wiradjuri names or suggest other names before a consultation report is provided to Council, who will recommend a name for the bridge. 👉 Members of the local Aboriginal community have until Wednesday 31 July to submit their Wiradjuri name suggestions for the New Dubbo Bridge, via this form: https://lnkd.in/g6ve4anQ

We’re excited to collaborate with different Government agencies to improve information access for our passengers and members of the community. 🤝 Recently, we teamed up with Service NSW to launch pop-up information kiosks at Epping and Westmead train stations. 🚉 This initiative was all about improving access to additional types of services and information at transport hubs, adapting the services available according to our passenger needs and making Government services more accessible, while encouraging more people to use our network. By engaging with passengers, Service NSW raised awareness of their Savings Finder program, which offers more than 70 rebates and vouchers to help reduce the cost of living. Our team also engaged with over 500 people on the day, completed over 400 surveys and received valuable feedback on service improvements and customer satisfaction. This collaboration allowed us to better understand passenger needs and adapt our service offerings. Following this successful trial, we're eager to partner with agencies and service providers on similar initiatives to boost passenger experience and community benefits. Interested? 👷♂️🚂 In just one year, thousands of Sydney Trains maintenance crew and apprentices, supported by teams of contractors worked around the clock to remove over 2,000 high-priority defects and over 35,000 total defects. We know it hasn't been without its challenges for our passengers, and we are grateful for your patience. But we haven’t stopped there. We've now turned our attention to a Train Repair Plan - a major investment in the improvement of our fleet. This maintenance work will include improving technology, communications and operating systems, repairs to carriages, and projects to extend the life of the diesel fleet. Incidents on the rail network are inevitable, but keeping our fleet in top shape is our key priority to reduce delays and cancellations for our passengers. #RailRepairPlan #TrainRepairPlan #TransportforNSW #SydneyTrains

Our focus on sustainability and reducing our environmental impact takes many forms at Transport. 🌏 🤝 Sydney Trains’ Lost Property Donations team (pictured) has collaborated with Muru Mittigar, a proud Dharug Aboriginal Social Enterprise in Western Sydney, to redefine how unclaimed items are managed and transform them into valuable resources for the community. All sorts of interesting, weird and wonderful things show up in the Sydney Trains lost property office, and while the team work hard to reunite customers with their items, many unclaimed items are now donated. 📥 So far this year, unclaimed toys, bikes, sporting gear, household appliances, and clothing have gone to Muru Mittigar to be shared with charities and communities in need. 🚲 🧸 👛 In recognition of their innovative approach and continued focus on identifying charity partnerships, the team were recently recognised at the Sydney Trains Customer Experience Excellence Awards. #Innovation #Partnerships #Sustainability #SydneyTrains #TransportForNSW

We are focused on making all transport modes work together so passengers have more choice and convenience. In response to the growing popularity of e-scooters and the need to manage their use safely, Transport is enabling trials of shared e-scooters in NSW. 🛴 As part of these trials, almost 300,000 e-scooter trips have been completed across the state. Safety remains our number one priority, and all shared e-scooter trials are designed to protect riders, pedestrians, cyclists and all road users. This includes initiatives to ensure all people on and around e-scooters have a better understanding of safety, including speed limits and infrastructure in place. This will keep our roads, shared paths and bicycle paths moving, and safe. 🤝 After listening to feedback, we’ve updated the process to make it easier for local councils to get approvals to run trials of shared e-scooters, whilst maintaining high standards on their safe operation. These trials are helping us unlock new travel choices for short trips. Find out more about the changes and how local councils can get e-scooting sooner here: https://lnkd.in/gvmQM-7u #Escooters #Collaboration #Safety #TransportForNSW

International Women in Engineering Day, celebrated recently, provided a fantastic opportunity to recognise the amazing work of women engineers around the world. At Transport, we’re deeply committed to gender equity across the organisation, including in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and construction (STEMC) roles. Here, we speak with Annie Zhang about her experience working in STEMC. From a young age, Annie was captivated by understanding how and why things work, which led her to pursue a degree in physics and ultimately a career in engineering. As a Project Support Officer on the Heathcote Road Upgrade involving the installation of design pavement, she navigated significant planning, collaboration, and coordination to ensure the road was opened safely and on time. Annie encourages women interested in engineering to explore their curiosity and contribute to the field. She stresses that diverse perspectives are crucial for designing innovative solutions and building infrastructures that reflect the requirements of the diverse community we serve. 🎥 Check out Annie’s typical day in the life as a Project Support Engineer in the video below. #STEMC #WomenInEngineering #TransportforNSW

Almost one in two women in Sydney have experienced street harassment in the past 12 months. Right across NSW, street harassment impacts women’s movement, with 92% of women reporting that feeling safe influences the routes they chose when travelling. As part of Transport’s Safer Cities program, we’ve recently launched a campaign, “Street harassment has no grey area,” which calls out inappropriate behaviour to help improve the safe movement of women, girls and gender diverse people. At Transport, our commitment goes beyond ensuring the safety of our passengers and our people on our network; we are also dedicated to improving the community’s sense of safety in public spaces in our cities and towns. #SaferCities #Safety #PublicSpaces #Infrastructure #TransportForNSW

At Transport, we take pride in the richness of our people's diverse backgrounds and cultures, and the strength it brings to our organisation. Over recent years, we have employed 41 refugees through our humanitarian employment programs. For Refugee Week, we sat down with Bobby Truong and Tola Samreth to learn about their family’s shared histories of fleeing Cambodia, and the challenges growing up in a new home. Bobby's family lived in Cambodia but his grandmother was Vietnamese. They sought refuge in Vietnam when war broke out, but were sent back to Cambodia to work in labour camps. Tola's parents were separated from her two brothers, aged four and seven, who were placed in child soldier camps. In search of safety for their young families, Bobby’s and Tola’s parents decided to make the long journey on foot to the UNHCR run refugee camp, Khao-I-Dang, on the Thailand border before eventually coming to Australia. 🎥 Check it out below - their stories reflect the profound resilience and strength that defines the refugee experience, and why we should choose kindness and compassion every day. #RefugeeWeek #RefugeeWeek2024 #TransportForNSW #InclusionandDiversity
