Nufarm CEO Greg Hunt says Australian Federal Budget support for low carbon liquid fuels is a win for farmers.   “Nufarm welcomes the Albanese Government’s support for the development of a low carbon liquid fuels industry in Australia. The Federal Budget’s funding and measures will encourage increased production and use of low carbon fuels, accelerate the economy’s decarbonisation, create new industries and jobs including for rural and regional areas,” Mr Hunt said.   “Australia’s globally competitive agriculture sector is well-placed to both drive and benefit from the energy transition. Australia has the natural resources and the agricultural capability to meet the growing demand for renewable feedstocks for use in low carbon liquid fuels without displacing food.   “Local farmers are already helping to decarbonise transport in Europe with most of Western Australia’s canola harvest exported there for use in biofuels. Australian Government support is essential to building local demand for low carbon liquid fuels so farmers have a well-functioning local market to sell their feedstocks.   “Decarbonising the liquid fuels we will use for decades to come is not a niche solution – it is a scalable, cost-effective way to quickly reduce emissions from hard-to-abate sectors such as transport, marine and aviation. It is also an opportunity to reduce Australia’s reliance on imported fuels and for farmers to diversify their income.   “Clear policy signals will also encourage renewable feedstock innovation and adoption. Increased demand for renewable fuels will help scale the production of emerging solutions such as Nufarm’s Carinata which is a non-food, sustainable lower carbon, oil feedstock for use as a drop-in replacement for fossil oils. Nufarm’s global partnership with bp will help meet rising demand by processing Nufarm Carinata into a drop-in biofuel that replaces fossil fuels for planes and heavy transport without the need to retrofit engines,” Mr Hunt said.   Jim Chalmers Murray Watt Ed Husic MP #renewablefuels #federalbudget

Nufarm believes there is enormous potential for locally produced #renewable fuels to help #decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors and strengthen Australia’s fuel security. Australia has the natural resources and the #agricultural capability to meet the growing demand for renewable #feedstocks without displacing #food.   This opportunity was highlighted yesterday by Nufarm’s Chairman John Gillam who urged the government to accelerate the development of a local renewable fuels industry. “Acting with a sense of urgency will accelerate Australia’s #decarbonisation, strengthen our fuel security, create new #jobs, and support the rural #economy.”    Nufarm is encouraged by the Australian government’s formation of the Jet Zero Council and development of the Aviation Green Paper as steps towards realising this opportunity. We continue to work with our partner bp, farmers and industry to develop this new opportunity for Australian agriculture.   https://lnkd.in/eNBKme_K   National Farmers' Federation, Bioenergy Australia, Murray Watt, Ed Husic MP

History was made on November 28, 2023, when a flight running on sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) took off from London, and landed in New York. It marked the first time a commercial aircraft made a transatlantic flight running on 100% SAF. Unlike traditional jet fuel, SAF generates fewer carbon lifecycle emissions and reduces the aviation industry's impact on climate change, making it a key component in air travel’s quest to be more environmentally sustainable. “Our estimation suggests about 65% of the carbon abatement to achieve net zero will come from the production and scaling of sustainable aviation fuel,” says Daniel Bloch, a sustainable aviation fuel specialist at the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Bio-based SAF produced from sustainable feedstocks (like Nuseed Carinata) closely mimics traditional jet fuel. It can also be blended with jet fuel and easily dropped into existing aircraft and aviation infrastructure without any amendments or adjustments to existing fleets. SAF will play a significant role in the more immediate decarbonization of long-haul aviation, because while other technologies such as electric or hydrogen are decades away from being commercially ready, SAF can be used now. So how do we produce enough biofuel to hit sustainable aviation goals? Cover crops are part of the solution. Learn more ⤵️ https://bit.ly/3vMTvcu
