Earlier this month, Hysata’s Chief Product Officer Tom Campey presented at the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA)’s Iron/Steel and H2 R&D Launch Roundtable in Sydney, discussing the lessons we’ve learnt on our journey on commercialising the world’s most efficient electrolyser. A key insight that Tom shared with the R&D grant recipients in the room was on integrating a commercial lens early on in technology development. He also covered the importance of building the right team and culture, something we are proud of at Hysata. ARENA plays an important role in climate tech innovation in Australia, and we are thankful for their ongoing support. Redefining the economics of green hydrogen.
About us
Our mission is to accelerate the world’s shift away from fossil fuels to green hydrogen by delivering the world’s best electrolyser. Hysata is developing a new type of hydrogen electrolyser. Our technology has the potential to significantly shift the economics of green hydrogen production, bringing $2/kg green hydrogen within reach, and accelerating the global transition to net zero emissions. Electrolysers use electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, and are the key technology for producing green hydrogen. Green hydrogen is widely acknowledged to be a crucial part of reaching net zero emissions globally, with the potential to meet up to 20% of energy demand in a net zero global economy. The Hysata electrolyser is based on breakthrough Australian technology developed by a team from the University of Wollongong’s ARC Centre of Excellence for Electromaterials Science, led by chemical catalysis and characterisation expert Professor Gerry Swiegers. We officially launched in June 2021, with $5 million in seed funding led by IP Group, with support from the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC).

Busy few days in Melbourne for the Connecting Green Hydrogen APAC 2024 conference last week! Hysata enjoyed being part of the H2Innovate lineup with Chief Product Officer Tom Campey discussing Hysata’s high efficiency electrolyser in an engaging panel session on ‘System Methodology to Achieve Low Levelized Cost and High-efficiency of Hydrogen Value Chain: Production, Operation, Supply’. Also great to see our investor POSCO, and hear from the Stanwell team who we are working with on our first commercial demonstration. We also enjoyed meeting many new people from across the green hydrogen industry in APAC at our booth. Great to share more about our world-leading technology, commercialisation progress and future plans. Thank you to all who came to say hi over the few days! Incredible achievement for Hysata's Chief People Officer Leanne Isabella, who was celebrated as a finalist in the Mentor of the Year category at this year's Women in Industry Awards! A great night out for the Hysata team to recognise Leanne’s contribution to both Hysata and the wider industry in engaging women in STEM and developing initiatives that help foster and support female talent. Throughout her career, Leanne has made a profound impact by promoting STEM through industry initiatives and professionally mentoring women. Some of her programs include iAccelerate, Leadership Illawarra Program, University of Wollongong UOWx, Tech Girls Movement Foundation events and podcasts, St Mary's Star of the Sea College careers day and the mentorship of colleagues past and present. At Hysata she actively mentors and supports women that make up one third of our staff, a great achievement for the industry, and has implemented inclusive policies. Well done Leanne, we look forward to seeing your continued passion shine through at Hysata, and positive impact across the industry. Congratulations to other finalists Catriona Sutherland, Deb Scown, Janelle Greene, Kristina Duris, Mar Serrano Lopez, Yiming M., the winner of the category Kirstin Reblin, and thank you to Women in Industry for a fantastic evening! 📷 Image Credit: Prime Creative Media - Publishing #GreenHydrogen #EfficiencyWins

Last week, Hysata's Head of Strategy and Corporate Affairs Prachi Agrawal spoke on Turner & Townsend's International Women in Engineering Day panel. The panel discussed various initiatives ranging from engaging high school students to consider careers in STEM, building a strong pipeline; to implementing strong policies that help retain women in the workforce and progress to leadership positions. It was highlighted that Australia, and the world, will need to be ‘all hands on deck’ for the energy transition, and women’s place in this transition goes beyond a social argument - it makes economic sense to ensure women's participation in the STEM workforce. Hysata is proud to be setting the right foundations for women in our workplace and acknowledge there is more to do as a company and an industry to achieve better outcomes for all women wanting to pursue a career in STEM. Thank you to Turner & Townsend and the fellow panellists Mary Hadjiangeli, Meisha Stevens, Miranda Swift, Gia Adriatico-Romano, and moderator Karen Chan for the important and engaging discussion! #GreenHydrogen #EfficiencyWins

Hysata was thrilled to host Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, Assistant Minister for Trade and Manufacturing at our Port Kembla site last week! Weeks after hosting the Hon Ed Husic, Minister for Industry and Science, CEO Paul Barrett was excited to give Senator Ayres a tour around the facility, demonstrating how our recent Series B funding round will be used to support the continuing commercialisation of our high efficiency electrolyser. We were pleased to demonstrate the progress we’ve made to the site following his previous visit in May last year as we work to reach gigawatt scale manufacturing. Great to discuss the landmark Future Made in Australia policies announced in the recent Federal budget. It is policies such these that companies like Hysata need to continue propelling domestic manufacturing. We are making the future in Australia. Thank you Senator Ayres for your ongoing support! #GreenHydrogen #EfficiencyWins
