Small modular reactors are advanced nuclear reactors that have a power capacity of up to 300 MW(e) per unit, which is about one-third of the generating capacity of traditional nuclear power reactors. SMRs, which can produce a large amount of low-carbon electricity, are: ➡ Small: physically a fraction of the size of a conventional nuclear power reactor. ➡ Modular: making it possible for systems and components to be factory-assembled and transported as a unit to a location for installation. ➡ Reactors: harnessing nuclear fission to generate heat to produce energy. atoms.iaea.org/3vFf0M7

Only about half of Ugandans have access to electricity, but its government has set a goal of achieving more than 99% electricity access by 2030. To reach this target, the country is looking to generate nuclear power with the help of domestically sourced uranium. Experts from the IAEA, Argentina, Australia, France and Namibia evaluated Uganda's uranium production cycle and recommended steps to bring the country closer to realizing its nuclear energy goals.
