Survey Shows Rising Optimism and Investment in SMEs. The National Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers (VOSZ) reported no tension in the labor market of domestic enterprises, with no layoffs planned and double-digit wage growth forecast. Investments are expected to return to the levels of a year ago. This information is based on the second-quarter VOSZ Barometer business sentiment analysis, which surveyed 400 VOSZ-member company leaders. The second-quarter VOSZ Barometer indicator stands at 54 percent, down from 56 percent in the same period last year but showing a rise for the second consecutive quarter. Despite the financial situation of domestic SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) being similar in the third quarter, business sentiment and investment propensity have improved compared to the first quarter, approaching levels from a year earlier. Challenges such as declining purchasing power, rising costs, a backlog of orders, and a shortage of skilled labor are diminishing in importance. Business sentiment remains optimistic at 59 percent, up slightly from the previous quarter, driven by positive expectations about the country’s economic situation and sales. The investment sub-index rose from 37 to 40 percent, indicating that investment intentions have moved out of the downward trend and reached the level of the second quarter of 2023. Expanding Airborne Capabilities with Two More H225M Helicopters. Two new H225M aircraft will join the fleet of the Kiss József 86th Helicopter Brigade of the Hungarian Defense Forces in Szolnok (Central-Hungary), Magyar Nemzet reports. The new high-tech equipment will further strengthen the paratroop and airborne capabilities of the Hungarian Air Force. In cooperation with French Airbus and the Hungarian Defense Forces, the brigade’s H225M helicopter fleet has already been expanded to ten aircraft, so more than half of the total H225M fleet of 16 aircraft is now in Hungary. As reported, the brigade received its first helicopters on July 24 last year, and the equipment has been arriving steadily since then. In line with NATO’s expectations, Hungary has met the two percent budget level for military spending for the second consecutive year, with 20 percent of the budget being spent on development under the military development program. FactThe H225M is a robust medium tactical transport helicopter equipped with two Turbomeca Makila 2A1 engines, offering up to 2,100 horsepower for short take-offs. It boasts folding rotor blades with a 20,000-hour lifespan and can carry 28 soldiers or 10 VIPs. With a maximum payload of 4,750 kg externally, it supports diverse missions including troop transport, medical evacuation with 11 stretchers, and cargo delivery up to 4,000 kg. Advanced features include an RDR-1600 radar, four-channel autopilot, and EGPWS (enhanced ground proximity warning system) for enhanced safety during low-altitude flights. Booming Sweet Corn Season is Ahead with Stable Supply for Markets and Industry. Producers are anticipating a strong season for sweet corn, with ample supply for both the processing industry and consumers, according to a survey by the Hungarian Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) and the FruitVeB Hungarian Interbranch Organization for Fruits and Vegetables. Hungary is highlighted as a major player in global sweet corn production, competing with China and the United States. The country boasts the largest sweet corn production area in the EU, with 24,000 hectares, 90% of which are irrigated. Sweet corn for the fresh market is primarily produced by small farmers on 0.5-1 hectare plots, with scheduled sowing allowing for a consistent supply from late May to early October. Most of the crop is processed by the canning industry. The flavor of sweet corn is determined by its sugar content, highest during the milk-ripening stage. Super sweet varieties have become dominant over the past decade. Sweet corn is versatile, eaten as a cooked side dish or snack on the cob, grilled, pickled with other vegetables, or added to salads. It is commonly available in canned and frozen forms, and pre-cooked vacuum-packed sweet corn is gaining popularity.
