🔌 🚐 MINDED project: improve the range of a battery-electric minibus by 20% 🚐🔌 We were delighted to welcome our partners from AIT Austrian Institute of Technology and University of Zagreb, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in the MINDED project at our laboratory this week. During this projectmeeting, we showed the battery-electric, zero-emission IVECO eDaily minibus at ATC’s climatized vehicle chassis dynamometer, equipped with comprehensive measurement systems. The objective of the MINDED project is to improve the range of this minibus by 20 % at 0 °C. This objective is reached through the implementation of 10 technical bricks and demonstrated on a climatized vehicle chassis dynamometer and an HVAC testbed. We look forward to the first measurement results and the further steps in the project The MINDED project consortium consists of 11 project partners, led by AIT Austrian Institute of Technology. At #AIT, #photonics expert Bernhard Schrenk is developing new types of photonic #chips that enable the cost-effective use of high-security #quantum #encryption. These quantum-optical chips can be realized purely on the basis of #silicon, are therefore relatively easy to combine with electronic processors and can thus be manufactured in conventional wafer factories. Schrenk can now implement and test this development in practice, for which he has been awarded the #ERC Proof-of-Concept Grant #MOSQITO (Monolithic Silicon Quantum Communication Circuitry)! "The AIT has been conducting research in the field of #quantumcommunication for many years and plays a leading role in Europe. AIT's goal is to turn excellent basic research into real innovations that benefit people and strengthen #Austria as a business location by increasing the level of technological maturity. With this award from the ERC to Bernhard Schrenk, the AIT has gained another important building block in the innovation chain from basic research to applied research and industrial development in quantum communication, and I would like to express my warmest congratulations," emphasizes Andreas Kugi, Scientific Director of the AIT. "We are proud that we can further expand our global photonics technology development for the #IT and #telecom industry as an important contribution to Austria as a high-tech industrial location through another ERC grant for Bernhard Schrenk, one of the world's leading experts in the field of photonics," says Helmut Leopold, Head of Center for Digital Safety & Security at AIT. "NEXTBMS aims to develop solutions for the next generation of battery management systems. The project contributes to achieving the optimal use of battery systems, extending their service life and reducing costs through more efficient use of materials. It supports systemic changes towards environmentally friendly mobility solutions. This benefits both the environment and end users", explains AIT expert Hansjörg Kapeller about the recently launched European project. Successful use of robots in stroke therapy. As part of the VITALISE H2020 Project, a study by the #AIT and The National Robotarium of the Heriot-Watt University based in Edinburgh/Scotland has investigated the rehabilitation process and the support provided by robots for patients with hemiplegia. The team has now investigated the extent to which people with hemiplegia can be better supported in their upper limb rehabilitation and targeted movement exercises by a combination of social assistive robots (SARs) and brain-computer interfaces (a device worn on the head with several sensors to measure brain waves). "The results of the study are promising and point the way forward for future stroke therapy," summarize Markus Garschall and Professor Lynne Baillie (she/her). A further evaluation project involving people with hemiparesis is planned for 2024 in Scotland.
