$\begingroup$ You might also be able to rule out some stars that are a member of multiple star systems. Close and wide binaries might be able to support life. Intermediate binaries, maybe not. It all depends on one's perspective. People who are predispositioned to thinking life is ubiquitous tend to look at things through their "life is ubiquitous" goggles. People who are predispositioned to thinking that life is rare look at things through their "life is rare" goggles. Right now, everyone is extrapolating from a sample size of one, and using their own preferred goggles to do so. We need some real evidence. $\endgroup$ Commented Mar 4, 2015 at 16:46
