How do I use a PlayStation 3 Sixaxis controller with Ubuntu to control games
There is nothing to install anymore on recent versions of Ubuntu, as Dualshock 3 (and 4 I believe) is natively supported by the Kernel, in both USB and Bluetooth.

Any way to check a PS3 controller's battery on Ubuntu?
You can simply use the Dual Shock 4 battery percentage extension for Gnome. Although the name mentions DS4, it also supports DS3 (which I am using) and should soon support DS5 with recent kernels.
