Evidence of $h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})η$ decay and search for $h_{b}(\text{1P,2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})π^0$ with the Belle detector

Abstract: We report the first evidence for the $h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})η$ transition with a significance of $3.5$ standard deviations. The decay branching fraction is measured to be $\mathcal{B}[h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})η]=(7.1 ~^{+3.7} _{-3.2}\pm 0.8)\times10^{-3}$, which is noticeably smaller than expected. Abstract: We search for excited charmed baryons in the $Λ_c^+η$ system using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980 $\rm fb^{-1}$. The data were collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}$$e^{-}$ asymmetric-energy collider. No significant signals are found in the $Λ_c^+η$ mass spectrum, including the known $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$. We observe clear $pJ/ψ$ production in $Υ(1,2S)$ decays and measure the branching fractions to be… ▽ More Using the data samples of 102 million $Υ(1S)$ and 158 million $Υ(2S)$ events collected by the Belle detector, we search for a pentaquark state in the $pJ/ψ$ final state from $Υ(1,2S)$ inclusive decays. Here, the charge-conjugate $\bar{p}J/ψ$ is included. We observe clear $pJ/ψ$ production in $Υ(1,2S)$ decays and measure the branching fractions to be $\mathcal{B}[Υ(1S) \to pJ/ψ+ anything] = [4.27 \pm 0.16(stat.) \pm 0.20(syst.)] \times 10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}[Υ(2S) \to pJ/ψ+ anything] = [3.59 \pm 0.14(stat.) \pm 0.16(syst.)] \times 10^{-5}$. We also measure the cross section of inclusive $pJ/ψ$ production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation to be $σ(e^+e^- \to pJ/ψ+ anything) = [57.5 \pm 2.1 (stat.) \pm 2.5(syst.)]$~fb at $\sqrt{s} = 10.52~\hbox{GeV}$ using an 89.5~fb$^{-1}$ continuum data sample. There is no significant $P_c(4312)^+$, $P_c(4440)^+$ or $P_c(4457)^+$ signal found in the $pJ/ψ$ final states in $Υ(1,2S)$ inclusive decays. We determine the upper limits of $\mathcal{B}[Υ(1,2S)\to P_c^{+} + anything] \cdot \mathcal{B}(P_c^{+}\to pJ/ψ)$ to be at the $10^{-6}$ level. △ Less

The search utilizes data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The data sample was collected at and just below the center-of-mass energies of the $Υ(4S)$ and $Υ(5S)$ resonances and has an integrated luminosity of $915~\textrm{fb}^{-1}$, corresponding to $(836\pm 12)\times 10^6$ $e^+e^\toτ^+τ^-$ events. We search for production of the HNL (denoted $N$) in the decay $τ^-\to π^- N$ followed by its decay via $N \to μ^+μ^- ν_τ$. The search focuses on the parameter-space region in which the HNL is long lived, so that the $μ^+μ^-$ originate from a common vertex that is significantly displaced from the collision point of the KEKB beams. Consistent with the expected background yield, one event is observed in the data sample after application of all the event-selection criteria. The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating $B^-$ decay and $Ξ_{c}^{0}-\barΞ_{c}^{0}$ oscillations which follow the S… ▽ More We report the results of the first search for $B^-$ decays to the $\barΞ_{c}^{0} \barΛ_{c}^{-}$ final state using 711~${\rm fb^{-1}}$ of data collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating $B^-$ decay and $Ξ_{c}^{0}-\barΞ_{c}^{0}$ oscillations which follow the Standard Model decay $B^- \to Ξ_{c}^{0} \barΛ_{c}^{-}$. We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95\% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and Standard Model branching fractions ${\mathcal{B}(B^- \rightarrow \barΞ_{c}^{0} \barΛ_{c}^{-})}/{\mathcal{B}(B^- \rightarrow Ξ_{c}^{0} \barΛ_{c}^{-})}$ to be $< 2.7\%$ and on the $Ξ_{c}^{0} - \barΞ_{c}^{0}$ oscillation angular frequency $ω$ to be $< 0.76\ \mathrm{ps}^{-1}$ (equivalent to $τ_{\rm mix} > 1.3$~ps). △ Less

Abstract: We present a measurement of $B^{0} \rightarrow ωω$, a charmless decay into two vector mesons, using 772 $\times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. The observation time of the data set of SK-IV corresponds to $2970$~days and the total live time for all four phases is $5805$~days. For more precise solar neutrino measurements, several improvements are applied in this analysis: lowering the data acquisition threshold in May 2015, further reduction of the spallation background using neutron clustering events, precise energy reconstruction considering the time variation of the PMT gain. The observed number of solar neutrino events in $3.49$--$19.49$ MeV electron kinetic energy region during SK-IV is $65,443^{+390}_{-388}\,(\mathrm{stat.})\pm 925\,(\mathrm{syst.})$ events. Corresponding $\mathrm{^{8}B}$ solar neutrino flux is $(2.314 \pm 0.014\, \rm{(stat.)} \pm 0.040 \, \rm{(syst.)}) \times 10^{6}~\mathrm{cm^{-2}\,s^{-1}}$, assuming a pure electron-neutrino flavor component without neutrino oscillations. The flux combined with all SK phases up to SK-IV is $(2.336 \pm 0.011\, \rm{(stat.)} \pm 0.043 \, \rm{(syst.)}) \times 10^{6}~\mathrm{cm^{-2}\,s^{-1}}$. Based on the neutrino oscillation analysis from all solar experiments, including the SK $5805$~days data set, the best-fit neutrino oscillation parameters are $\rm{sin^{2} θ_{12,\,solar}} = 0.306 \pm 0.013 $ and $Δm^{2}_{21,\,\mathrm{solar}} = (6.10^{+ 0.95}_{-0.81}) \times 10^{-5}~\rm{eV}^{2}$, with a deviation of about 1.5$σ$ from the $Δm^{2}_{21}$ parameter obtained by KamLAND. The best-fit neutrino oscillation parameters obtained from all solar experiments and KamLAND are $\sin^{2} θ_{12,\,\mathrm{global}} = 0.307 \pm 0.012 $ and $Δm^{2}_{21,\,\mathrm{global}} = (7.50^{+ 0.19}_{-0.18}) \times 10^{-5}~\rm{eV}^{2}$. △ Less

The ratio is measured via a two-dimensional fit to the squared four-momentum transfer to the lepton pair, and the charged lepton energy in the $B$ meson rest frame, where the latter must be larger than $1$ Ge\kern -0.1em V, covering approximately $86\%$ and $78\%$ of the $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overlineν$ and $\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overlineν$ phase space, respectively. We find $Δ\mathcal{B}(\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overlineν)/ Δ\mathcal{B}(\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overlineν) = 0.0196(1 \pm 8.4\%_{\rm stat} \pm 7.9\%_{\rm syst})$ where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. In addition, we report the partial branching fractions separately for charged and neutral $B$ meson decays, and for electron and muon decay channels. We place a limit on isospin breaking in $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overlineν$ decays, and find no indication of lepton flavor universality violation in either the charmed or charmless mode. Furthermore, we unfold the $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overlineν$ and $\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overlineν$ yields and report the differential ratio in lepton energy and four-momentum transfer squared. △ Less

We obtain $R_1/R_2 = 9.7\pm 2.3 \pm 1.1$, $6.8 \pm 2.1 \pm 0.8$, $10.2 \pm 3.3 \pm 2.5$, and $3.4 \pm 2.1 \pm 0.5$ for the $D_s^+ D_{s1}(2536)^-$, $D_s^{*+} D_{s1}(2536)^-$, $D_s^+ D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^{-}$, and $D_s^{*+} D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^{-}$ final states in the $D_{sJ}^-\to K^{-} \bar{D}^{(*)0}$ modes, respectively. Therefore, the strong decay is expected to dominate in the $Υ(2S)\to D_{s}^{(*)+}D_{sJ}^-$ processes. We also measure the ratios of branching fractions ${\cal B}(D_{s1}(2536)^-\to K_S^0 D^{*}(2010)^{-})/{\cal B}(D_{s1}(2536)^-\to K^{-} D^{*}(2007)^0) = 0.48 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.02$ and ${\cal B}(D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^- \to K_S^0 D^-)/{\cal B}(D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^- \to K^{-}D^0) = 0.49 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.02$, which are consistent with isospin symmetry. Abstract: We report results from a study of $B^\pm \rightarrow DK^\pm$ decays followed by $D$ decaying to $CP$~eigenstates, where $D$ indicates a $D^0$ or $\bar{D}^{0}$ meson. These decays are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity-triangle angle $φ_{3}$. We measure the $CP$ asymmetries to be $\mathcal{ A}_{CP +} =~(+12.5 \pm 5.8 \pm 1.4)\% $ and $\mathcal{ A}_{CP -} =~(-16.7 \pm 5.7 \pm 0.6)\%$, and the ratios of branching fractions to be $\mathcal{ R}_{CP+}=~1.164 \pm 0.081 \pm 0.036 $ and $\mathcal{ R}_{CP-} =~1.151 \pm 0.074 \pm 0.019$. The first contribution to the uncertainties is statistical, and the second is systematic. The asymmetries $\mathcal{A}_{CP +}$ and $\mathcal{A}_{CP -}$ have similar magnitudes and opposite signs; their difference corresponds to 3.5~standard deviations. From these values we calculate 68.3\% confidence intervals of ($8.5^{\circ}<φ_{3}<16.5^{\circ}$) or ($84.5^{\circ}<φ_{3}<95.5^{\circ}$) or ($163.3^{\circ}<φ_{3}<171.5^{\circ}$) and $0.321<r_{B}<0.465$. △ Less

Search for the double-charmonium state with $η_c J/ψ$ at Belle

We also search for double charmonium production in $e^+e^-\rightarrowη_c J/ψ$ via initial state radiation near the $η_c J/ψ$ threshold. These results are the first such measurements and are all consistent with zero. They include the first measurement for a $D^+_s$ singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay, and the first measurement for a $D$ meson doubly Cabibbo-suppressed decay. We also measure $a^{T\text{-odd}}_{C\!P}$ in different subregions of phase space, where the decays are dominated by different intermediate resonance states such as $D^+\toφρ^+$, $\bar{K}^{*0}K^{*+}$, and $\bar{K}^{*0}ρ^+$; and $D_s^+\to K^{*+}ρ^{0}$, $K^{*0}ρ^{+}$, $φρ^+$, and $\bar{K}^{*0}K^{*+}$. We separate exclusive $B \to π\, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ decays from other inclusive $B \to X_u \, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ and backgrounds with a two-dimensional fit, that utilizes the number of charged pions in the $X_u$ system and the four-momentum transfer $q^2$ between the $B$ and $X_u$ system. Combining our measurement with information from lattice QCD and QCD calculations of the inclusive partial rate as well as external experimental information on the shape of the $B \to π\, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ form factor, we determine $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{excl.}} \right| = (3.78 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.16 \pm 0.14)\times 10^{-3}$ and $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{incl.}} \right| = (3.88 \pm 0.20 \pm 0.31 \pm 0.09)\times 10^{-3}$, respectively, with the uncertainties being the statistical error, systematic errors, and theory errors. The ratio of $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{excl.}} \right| / \left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{incl.}} \right| = 0.97 \pm 0.12$ is compatible with unity. △ Less

Study of the muon decay-in-flight in the $τ^-\toμ^-\barν_μν_τ$ decay to measure the Michel parameter $ξ^\prime$

Abstract: We present the first measurement of the Michel parameter $ξ^\prime$ in the $τ^-\toμ^-\barν_μν_τ$ decay using the full data sample of $988\,\text{fb}^{-1}$ collected by the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The method is based on the reconstruction of the $μ^- \to e^- \barν_eν_μ$ decay-in-flight in the Belle central drift chamber and relies on the correlatio… ▽ More We present the first measurement of the Michel parameter $ξ^\prime$ in the $τ^-\toμ^-\barν_μν_τ$ decay using the full data sample of $988\,\text{fb}^{-1}$ collected by the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The method is based on the reconstruction of the $μ^- \to e^- \barν_eν_μ$ decay-in-flight in the Belle central drift chamber and relies on the correlation between muon spin and its daughter electron momentum. We study the main sources of the background that can imitate the signal decay, such as kaon and pion decays-in-flight and charged particle scattering on the detector material. Highly efficient methods of their suppression are developed and applied to select 165 signal-candidate events. We obtain $ξ^\prime=0.22\pm0.94\pm0.42$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, and the second one is systematic. We measure $ξ^\prime=0.22\pm0.94(\text{stat})\pm0.42(\text{syst})$, which is in agreement with the standard model prediction of $ξ^\prime=1$. Statistical uncertainty dominates in this study, being a limiting factor, while systematic uncertainty is well under control. Study of the lineshape of $X(3872)$ using $B$ decays to $D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}K$

The branching fraction is found to be ${\cal B} (B^+\to X(3872)K^+) \times {\cal{B}}(X(3872) \to D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}) = (0.97 ^{+0.21}_{-0.18} ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.10 ({\rm syst})) \times 10^{-4}$. The signal from $B^0$ decays is observed for the first time with $5.2σ$ significance, and the ratio of branching fractions between charged and neutral $B$ decays is measured to be ${\cal B}(B^0\to X(3872)K^0)/{\cal B}(B^+ \to X(3872)K^+) = 1.34^{+0.47}_{-0.40} ({\rm stat}) ^{+0.10}_{-0.12} ({\rm syst})$. The peak is also studied using a Flatté lineshape. We determine the lower limit on the $D\overline{D}{}^{*}$ coupling constant $g$ to be $0.075$ at 95% credibility in the parameter region where the ratio of $g$ to the mass difference from the $D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}$ threshold is equal to $-15.11~{\rm GeV}^{-1}$, as measured by LHCb. △ Less

We extract the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert (CLN) and Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed (BGL) form factor parameters and use an external input for the absolute branching fractions to determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element and find $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{CLN} = (40.1\pm0.9)\times 10^{-3}$ and $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{BGL} = (40.6\pm 0.9)\times 10^{-3}$ with the zero-recoil lattice QCD point $\mathcal{F}(1) = 0.906 \pm 0.013$. We also perform a study of the impact of preliminary beyond zero-recoil lattice QCD calculations on the $|V_{cb}|$ determinations. Additionally, we present the lepton flavor universality ratio $R_{eμ} = \mathcal{B}(B \to D^* e \barν_e) / \mathcal{B}(B \to D^* μ\barν_μ) = 0.990 \pm 0.021 \pm 0.023$, the electron and muon forward-backward asymmetry and their difference $ΔA_{FB}=0.022\pm0.026\pm 0.007$, and the electron and muon $D^*$ longitudinal polarization fraction and their difference $ΔF_L^{D^*} = 0.034 \pm 0.024 \pm 0.007$. Abstract: Charged-lepton-flavor-violation is predicted in several new physics scenarios. We update the analysis of $τ$ lepton decays into a light charged lepton ($\ell$ = $e^{\pm}$ or $μ^{\pm}$) and a vector meson ($V^0$ = $ρ^0$, $φ$, $ω$, $K^{\ast0}$, or $\overline{K}{}^{\ast0}$) using 980 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider. No significant excess of such signal events… ▽ More Charged-lepton-flavor-violation is predicted in several new physics scenarios. Abstract: Using the entire data sample of $980\,\textrm{fb}^{-1}$ collected with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy collider, we report the measurement of the mass, width, and the relative branching ratios of the $Λ_c(2625)^+$ charmed baryon. The mass difference between $Λ_c(2625)^+$ and $Λ_c^+$ is measured to be $M(Λ_c(2625)^{+}) - M(Λ_c^{+}) = 341.518 \pm 0.006 \pm 0.049\ \mathrm{MeV}/\mathit{c}^2$. The upper limit on the width is measured to be $Γ(Λ_c(2625)^+) < 0.52\,\mathrm{MeV}/\textit{c}^2$ at 90\% credibility level. Based on a full Dalitz plot fit, branching ratios with respect to the mode $Λ_c(2625)^+ \to Λ_c^+ π^+ π^-$ are measured to be $\frac{\mathcal{B}(Λ_c(2625)^+ \to Σ_c^{0} π^{+})} {\mathcal{B}(Λ_c(2625)^+ \to Λ_c^+ π^{+} π^{-})} = (5.19 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.40) \%$ and $\frac{\mathcal{B}(Λ_c(2625)^+ \to Σ_c^{++} π^{-})} {\mathcal{B}(Λ_c(2625)^+ \to Λ_c^+ π^{+} π^{-})} = (5.13 \pm 0.26 \pm 0.32) \%$. First Observation of $Λπ^+$ and $Λπ^-$ Signals near the $\bar{K}N (I=1)$ Mass Threshold in $Λ_c^+\rightarrowΛπ^+π^+π^-$ Decay

When interpreted as resonances, we find for the $Λπ^+$ ($Λπ^-$) combination a mass of $1434.3 \pm 0.6 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.9(\mathrm{syst})$ MeV/$c^2$ [$1438.5 \pm 0.9 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 2.5(\mathrm{syst})$ MeV/$c^2$], an intrinsic width of $11.5 \pm 2.8 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 5.3(\mathrm{syst})$ MeV/$c^2$ [$33.0 \pm 7.5 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 23.6(\mathrm{syst})$ MeV/$c^2$] with a significance of 7.5$σ$ (6.2$σ$). As these two signals are very close to the $\bar{K}N$ threshold, we also investigate the possibility of a $\bar{K}N$ cusp, and find that \ we cannot discriminate between these two interpretations due to the limited size of the data sample. △ Less

Abstract: We present a study of a singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0K_S^0$ and a Cabibbo-favored decay $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0η$ based on 980 $\rm fb^{-1}$ of data collected by the Belle detector, operating at the KEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+e^-$ collider. We measure their branching fractions relative to $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0$:… ▽ More We present a study of a singly Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0K_S^0$ and a Cabibbo-favored decay $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0η$ based on 980 $\rm fb^{-1}$ of data collected by the Belle detector, operating at the KEKB energy-asymmetric $e^+e^-$ collider. We measure their branching fractions relative to $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0$: $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0K_S^0)/\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0)={(1.48 \pm 0.08 \pm 0.04)\times 10^{-2}}$ and $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0η)/\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0)={(2.73\pm 0.06\pm 0.13)\times 10^{-1}}$. Combining with the world average $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0)$, we have the absolute branching fractions: $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0K_S^0) = {(2.35\pm 0.12\pm 0.07 \pm 0.12 )\times 10^{-4}}$ and $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0η) = {(4.35\pm 0.10\pm 0.20 \pm 0.22 )\times 10^{-3}}$. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, while the third ones arise from the uncertainty on $\mathcal{B}(Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0)$. The mode $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0K_S^0$ is observed for the first time and has a statistical significance of $>\!10σ$. The branching fraction of $Λ_c^+\to{}pK_S^0η$ has been measured with a threefold improvement in precision over previous results and is found to be consistent with the world average. △ Less

Neutron Tagging following Atmospheric Neutrino Events in a Water Cherenkov Detector

Abstract: We present the development of neutron-tagging techniques in Super-Kamiokande IV using a neural network analysis. The detection efficiency of neutron capture on hydrogen is estimated to be 26%, with a mis-tag rate of 0.016 per neutrino event. The uncertainty of the tagging efficiency is estimated to be 9.0%.
