Measurement of $CP$ asymmetries in $B^0 \to K^0_S π^0 γ$ decays at Belle II

Abstract: We report measurements of time-dependent $CP$ asymmetries in $B^0 \to K^0_S π^0 γ$ decays based on a data sample of $(388\pm6)\times10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle II detector. The Belle II experiment operates at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We measure decay-time distributions to determine $CP$-violating parameters $S$ and $C$. We det… ▽ More We report measurements of time-dependent $CP$ asymmetries in $B^0 \to K^0_S π^0 γ$ decays based on a data sample of $(388\pm6)\times10^6$ $B\bar{B}$ events collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle II detector. The Belle II experiment operates at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We measure decay-time distributions to determine $CP$-violating parameters $S$ and $C$. We determine these parameters for two ranges of $K^0_S π^0$ invariant mass: $m(K^0_S π^0)\in (0.8, 1.0)$ $GeV/c^2$, which is dominated by $B^0 \to K^{*0} (\to K^0_S π^0) γ$ decays, and a complementary region $m(K^0_S π^0)\in (0.6, 0.8)\cup(1.0, 1.8)$ $GeV/c^2$. After an optimized selection, a simultaneous fit to the Belle and Belle II data sets yields $114\pm 12$ $B^{+}\rightarrowρ^{+}γ$ and $99\pm 12$ $B^{0}\rightarrowρ^{0}γ$ decays. The measured branching fractions are $(13.1^{+2.0 +1.3}_{-1.9 -1.2})\times 10^{-7}$ and $(7.5\pm 1.3^{+1.0}_{-0.8})\times 10^{-7}$ for $B^{+}\rightarrowρ^{+}γ$ and $B^{0}\rightarrowρ^{0}γ$ decays, respectively, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Evidence of $h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})η$ decay and search for $h_{b}(\text{1P,2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})π^0$ with the Belle detector

Abstract: We report the first evidence for the $h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})η$ transition with a significance of $3.5$ standard deviations. The decay branching fraction is measured to be $\mathcal{B}[h_{b}(\text{2P}) \to Υ(\text{1S})η]=(7.1 ~^{+3.7} _{-3.2}\pm 0.8)\times10^{-3}$, which is noticeably smaller than expected. Measurement of the integrated luminosity of data samples collected during 2019-2022 by the Belle II experiment

Abstract: We search for excited charmed baryons in the $Λ_c^+η$ system using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980 $\rm fb^{-1}$. The data were collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}$$e^{-}$ asymmetric-energy collider. No significant signals are found in the $Λ_c^+η$ mass spectrum, including the known $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$. The data were collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}$$e^{-}$ asymmetric-energy collider. No significant signals are found in the $Λ_c^+η$ mass spectrum, including the known $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$. Clear $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$ signals are observed in the $pD^0$ mass spectrum. We set upper limits at 90\% credibility level on ratios of branching fractions of $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $Λ_c(2940)^+$ decaying to $Λ_c^+η$ relative to $Σ_c(2455)π$ of $<0.13$ for the $Λ_c(2880)^+$ and $<1.11$ for the $Λ_c(2940)^+$. Abstract: We present measurements of the branching fractions of eight $\overline B{}^0\to D^{(*)+} K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$, $B^{-}\to D^{(*)0} K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$ decay channels. The results are based on data from SuperKEKB electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $362~\text{fb}^{-1}$. The event yields are extracted… ▽ More We present measurements of the branching fractions of eight $\overline B{}^0\to D^{(*)+} K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$, $B^{-}\to D^{(*)0} K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$ decay channels. The results are based on data from SuperKEKB electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $362~\text{fb}^{-1}$. The event yields are extracted from fits to the distributions of the difference between expected and observed $B$ meson energy, and are efficiency-corrected as a function of $m(K^-K^{(*)0}_{(S)})$ and $m(D^{(*)}K^{(*)0}_{(S)})$ in order to avoid dependence on the decay model. These results include the first observation of $\overline B{}^0\to D^+K^-K_S^0$, $B^-\to D^{*0}K^-K_S^0$, and $\overline B{}^0\to D^{*+}K^-K_S^0$ decays and a significant improvement in the precision of the other channels compared to previous measurements. The helicity-angle distributions and the invariant mass distributions of the $K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$ systems are compatible with quasi-two-body decays via a resonant transition with spin-parity $J^P=1^-$ for the $K^-K_S^0$ systems and $J^P= 1^+$ for the $K^-K^{*0}$ systems. The result, $R_μ= 0.9675 \pm 0.0007 \pm 0.0036$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, is the most precise to date. It provides a stringent test of the light-lepton universality, translating to a ratio of the couplings of the muon and electron to the $W$ boson in $τ$ decays of $0.9974 \pm 0.0019$, in agreement with the standard model expectation of unity. △ Less

We use an $e^+e^-$ data sample corresponding to 191 $\text{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, collected at a center-of-mass energy at or near the $Υ{(4S)}$ resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. Signal yields are extract… ▽ More We report a measurement of the $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0$ cross section in the energy range from 0.62 to 3.50 GeV using an initial-state radiation technique. We use an $e^+e^-$ data sample corresponding to 191 $\text{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, collected at a center-of-mass energy at or near the $Υ{(4S)}$ resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. Signal yields are extracted by fitting the two-photon mass distribution in $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0γ$ events, which involve a $π^0 \to γγ$ decay and an energetic photon radiated from the initial state. Signal efficiency corrections with an accuracy of 1.6% are obtained from several control data samples. The uncertainty on the cross section at the $ω$ and $φ$ resonances is dominated by the systematic uncertainty of 2.2%. The resulting cross sections in the 0.62-1.80 GeV energy range yield $ a_μ^{3π} = [48.91 \pm 0.23~(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 1.07~(\mathrm{syst})] \times 10^{-10} $ for the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. This result differs by $2.5$ standard deviations from the most precise current determination. △ Less

We also measure the cross section of inclusive $pJ/ψ$ production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation to be $σ(e^+e^- \to pJ/ψ+ anything) = [57.5 \pm 2.1 (stat.) \pm 2.5(syst.)]$~fb at $\sqrt{s} = 10.52~\hbox{GeV}$ using an 89.5~fb$^{-1}$ continuum data sample. There is no significant $P_c(4312)^+$, $P_c(4440)^+$ or $P_c(4457)^+$ signal found in the $pJ/ψ$ final states in $Υ(1,2S)$ inclusive decays. We determine the upper limits of $\mathcal{B}[Υ(1,2S)\to P_c^{+} + anything] \cdot \mathcal{B}(P_c^{+}\to pJ/ψ)$ to be at the $10^{-6}$ level. △ Less

The ratio of branching fractions is extracted in a simultaneous fit to two signal-discriminating variables in both channels and yields $R(D^{*}) = 0.262~_{-0.039}^{+0.041}(\mathrm{stat})~_{-0.032}^{+0.035}(\mathrm{syst})$. The ratio is measured via a two-dimensional fit to the squared four-momentum transfer to the lepton pair, and the charged lepton energy in the $B$ meson rest frame, where the latter must be larger than $1$ Ge\kern -0.1em V, covering approximately $86\%$ and $78\%$ of the $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overlineν$ and $\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overlineν$ phase space, respectively. We find $Δ\mathcal{B}(\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overlineν)/ Δ\mathcal{B}(\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overlineν) = 0.0196(1 \pm 8.4\%_{\rm stat} \pm 7.9\%_{\rm syst})$ where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. In addition, we report the partial branching fractions separately for charged and neutral $B$ meson decays, and for electron and muon decay channels. We place a limit on isospin breaking in $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overlineν$ decays, and find no indication of lepton flavor universality violation in either the charmed or charmless mode. Furthermore, we unfold the $\overline{B} \to X_{u} \ell \overlineν$ and $\overline{B} \to X_{c} \ell \overlineν$ yields and report the differential ratio in lepton energy and four-momentum transfer squared. △ Less

Abstract: We report a search for the charged-lepton flavor violation in $Υ(2S) \to \ell^\mpτ^\pm$ ($\ell=e,μ$) decays using a $25~\fbi$ $Υ(2S)$ sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^{+}$$e^-$ asymmetric-energy collider. We find no evidence for a signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions ($\mathcal{B}$) at 90\% confidence level. We obtain $R_1/R_2 = 9.7\pm 2.3 \pm 1.1$, $6.8 \pm 2.1 \pm 0.8$, $10.2 \pm 3.3 \pm 2.5$, and $3.4 \pm 2.1 \pm 0.5$ for the $D_s^+ D_{s1}(2536)^-$, $D_s^{*+} D_{s1}(2536)^-$, $D_s^+ D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^{-}$, and $D_s^{*+} D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^{-}$ final states in the $D_{sJ}^-\to K^{-} \bar{D}^{(*)0}$ modes, respectively. Therefore, the strong decay is expected to dominate in the $Υ(2S)\to D_{s}^{(*)+}D_{sJ}^-$ processes. We also measure the ratios of branching fractions ${\cal B}(D_{s1}(2536)^-\to K_S^0 D^{*}(2010)^{-})/{\cal B}(D_{s1}(2536)^-\to K^{-} D^{*}(2007)^0) = 0.48 \pm 0.07 \pm 0.02$ and ${\cal B}(D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^- \to K_S^0 D^-)/{\cal B}(D_{s2}^{*}(2573)^- \to K^{-}D^0) = 0.49 \pm 0.10 \pm 0.02$, which are consistent with isospin symmetry. Measurement of branching-fraction ratios and $CP$ asymmetries in $B^{\pm} \to D_{CP\pm}K^{\pm}$ decays at Belle and Belle II

Abstract: We report results from a study of $B^\pm \rightarrow DK^\pm$ decays followed by $D$ decaying to $CP$~eigenstates, where $D$ indicates a $D^0$ or $\bar{D}^{0}$ meson. These decays are sensitive to the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa unitarity-triangle angle $φ_{3}$. We measure the $CP$ asymmetries to be $\mathcal{ A}_{CP +} =~(+12.5 \pm 5.8 \pm 1.4)\% $ and $\mathcal{ A}_{CP -} =~(-16.7 \pm 5.7 \pm 0.6)\%$, and the ratios of branching fractions to be $\mathcal{ R}_{CP+}=~1.164 \pm 0.081 \pm 0.036 $ and $\mathcal{ R}_{CP-} =~1.151 \pm 0.074 \pm 0.019$. The first contribution to the uncertainties is statistical, and the second is systematic. The asymmetries $\mathcal{A}_{CP +}$ and $\mathcal{A}_{CP -}$ have similar magnitudes and opposite signs; their difference corresponds to 3.5~standard deviations. From these values we calculate 68.3\% confidence intervals of ($8.5^{\circ}<φ_{3}<16.5^{\circ}$) or ($84.5^{\circ}<φ_{3}<95.5^{\circ}$) or ($163.3^{\circ}<φ_{3}<171.5^{\circ}$) and $0.321<r_{B}<0.465$. △ Less

Search for the double-charmonium state with $η_c J/ψ$ at Belle

Abstract: We measure the cross section of $e^+e^-\rightarrowη_c J/ψ$ at the $Υ(nS) (n=1$ -- $5)$ on-resonance and 10.52 GeV off-resonance energy points using the full data sample collected by the Belle detector with an integrated luminosity of $955~\rm fb^{-1}$. We also search for double charmonium production in $e^+e^-\rightarrowη_c J/ψ$ via initial state radiation near the $η_c J/ψ$ threshold. No evident… ▽ More We measure the cross section of $e^+e^-\rightarrowη_c J/ψ$ at the $Υ(nS) (n=1$ -- $5)$ on-resonance and 10.52 GeV off-resonance energy points using the full data sample collected by the Belle detector with an integrated luminosity of $955~\rm fb^{-1}$. We also search for double charmonium production in $e^+e^-\rightarrowη_c J/ψ$ via initial state radiation near the $η_c J/ψ$ threshold. No evident signal of the double charmonium state is found, but evidence for the $e^+e^-\rightarrowη_c J/ψ$ process is found with a statistical significance greater than $3.3σ$ near the $η_c J/ψ$ threshold. We also report the first observation of the Cabibbo-suppressed decay $D^{+}_{s}\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}K^{0}_{S}π^{+}$. First Simultaneous Determination of Inclusive and Exclusive $\left|V_{ub}\right|$

We separate exclusive $B \to π\, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ decays from other inclusive $B \to X_u \, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ and backgrounds with a two-dimensional fit, that utilizes the number of charged pions in the $X_u$ system and the four-momentum transfer $q^2$ between the $B$ and $X_u$ system. Combining our measurement with information from lattice QCD and QCD calculations of the inclusive partial rate as well as external experimental information on the shape of the $B \to π\, \ell\, \bar ν_{\ell}$ form factor, we determine $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{excl.}} \right| = (3.78 \pm 0.23 \pm 0.16 \pm 0.14)\times 10^{-3}$ and $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{incl.}} \right| = (3.88 \pm 0.20 \pm 0.31 \pm 0.09)\times 10^{-3}$, respectively, with the uncertainties being the statistical error, systematic errors, and theory errors. The ratio of $\left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{excl.}} \right| / \left|V_{ub}^{\mathrm{incl.}} \right| = 0.97 \pm 0.12$ is compatible with unity. △ Less

The method is based on the reconstruction of the $μ^- \to e^- \barν_eν_μ$ decay-in-flight in the Belle central drift chamber and relies on the correlation between muon spin and its daughter electron momentum. We study the main sources of the background that can imitate the signal decay, such as kaon and pion decays-in-flight and charged particle scattering on the detector material. Highly efficient methods of their suppression are developed and applied to select 165 signal-candidate events. We obtain $ξ^\prime=0.22\pm0.94\pm0.42$ where the first uncertainty is statistical, and the second one is systematic. The result is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction of $ξ^\prime=1$. △ Less

Statistical uncertainty dominates in this study, being a limiting factor, while systematic uncertainty is well under control. Abstract: We present a study of the $X(3872)$ lineshape in the decay $B \to X(3872)K\to D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}K$ using a data sample of $772\times 10^6$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We determine the mass and width parameters to be $m = 3873.71 ^{+0.56}_{-0.50} ({\rm stat}) \pm0.13 ({\rm syst}) ~{\rm MeV}/c^2$ and $Γ_0 = 5.2 ^{+2.2}_{-1.5} ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.4 ({\rm syst})~{\rm MeV}$, respectively. The branching fraction is found to be ${\cal B} (B^+\to X(3872)K^+) \times {\cal{B}}(X(3872) \to D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}) = (0.97 ^{+0.21}_{-0.18} ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.10 ({\rm syst})) \times 10^{-4}$. The signal from $B^0$ decays is observed for the first time with $5.2σ$ significance, and the ratio of branching fractions between charged and neutral $B$ decays is measured to be ${\cal B}(B^0\to X(3872)K^0)/{\cal B}(B^+ \to X(3872)K^+) = 1.34^{+0.47}_{-0.40} ({\rm stat}) ^{+0.10}_{-0.12} ({\rm syst})$. The peak is also studied using a Flatté lineshape. We determine the lower limit on the $D\overline{D}{}^{*}$ coupling constant $g$ to be $0.075$ at 95% credibility in the parameter region where the ratio of $g$ to the mass difference from the $D^0\overline{D}{}^{*0}$ threshold is equal to $-15.11~{\rm GeV}^{-1}$, as measured by LHCb. △ Less

Abstract: We report the first measurement of the $Q^2$ distribution of $X(3915)$ produced by single-tag two-photon interactions. The decay mode used is $X(3915) \rightarrow J/ψω$. The covered $Q^2$ region is from 1.5 (GeV/$c$)$^2$ to 10.0 (GeV/$c$)$^2$. We extract the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert (CLN) and Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed (BGL) form factor parameters and use an external input for the absolute… ▽ More We present a measurement of the differential shapes of exclusive $B\to D^* \ell \barν_\ell$ ($B = B^-, \bar{B}^0 $ and $\ell = e, μ$) decays with hadronic tag-side reconstruction for the full Belle data set of $711\,\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ integrated luminosity. We extract the Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert (CLN) and Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed (BGL) form factor parameters and use an external input for the absolute branching fractions to determine the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element and find $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{CLN} = (40.1\pm0.9)\times 10^{-3}$ and $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{BGL} = (40.6\pm 0.9)\times 10^{-3}$ with the zero-recoil lattice QCD point $\mathcal{F}(1) = 0.906 \pm 0.013$. We also perform a study of the impact of preliminary beyond zero-recoil lattice QCD calculations on the $|V_{cb}|$ determinations. Additionally, we present the lepton flavor universality ratio $R_{eμ} = \mathcal{B}(B \to D^* e \barν_e) / \mathcal{B}(B \to D^* μ\barν_μ) = 0.990 \pm 0.021 \pm 0.023$, the electron and muon forward-backward asymmetry and their difference $ΔA_{FB}=0.022\pm0.026\pm 0.007$, and the electron and muon $D^*$ longitudinal polarization fraction and their difference $ΔF_L^{D^*} = 0.034 \pm 0.024 \pm 0.007$. Abstract: Charged-lepton-flavor-violation is predicted in several new physics scenarios. We update the analysis of $τ$ lepton decays into a light charged lepton ($\ell$ = $e^{\pm}$ or $μ^{\pm}$) and a vector meson ($V^0$ = $ρ^0$, $φ$, $ω$, $K^{\ast0}$, or $\overline{K}{}^{\ast0}$) using 980 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB collider. No significant excess of such signal events… ▽ More Charged-lepton-flavor-violation is predicted in several new physics scenarios.
