Max Delany, director and CEO of the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art in Melbourne, has announced his plan to step down from the role in November 2024.
Delany took on the position of artistic director and CEO of ACCA in 2016. He oversaw landmark exhibitions including Who’s Afraid of Public Space? (2022) and Sovereignty (2017), an exhibition focusing on contemporary art of First Nations peoples of South East Australia. ACCA Chair Dr Terry Wu stated: ‘Max has been instrumental in embedding First Nations voice and self-determination. Under his leadership, ACCA is also proud to have established a dedicated First Nations curatorial position [since 2018].’
Delany said: ‘It has been a privilege to lead ACCA over almost a decade. […] The work of artists lies at the heart of what we do, and I am immeasurably grateful for their collaboration and trust, and for the visionary, philosophical and transformational role that artists play in our society.’
