Recently I've came across Monero proposal (btw. I haven't heard about it at all until now) and it's already in 19% of Commitment phase with 70 people already committed (as at time of writing) and it was proposed only 11 days ago. I may only assume it was advertised. So this looks like new sites can go from scratch into private beta just as quick as within 2 weeks.

Monero committers

Ignoring some sites which skipped Definition and Commitment, are there any statistics available which show the top quickest proposal which went into private beta (matching the whole criteria for previous phases)?

  • Maybe Craft CMS got all of it's questions between May 30 and 31, 2014, Listed as being in beta for 715 days which comes to about June 11, 2014, not sure if that is public or private beta

    Monero's running into the usual problem for proposals backed by a large external community: a shortage of committers with experience on SE sites. Notice that only 19 of the 73 current committers have 200+ rep on at least one site.

  • Every site needs to be to private beta, so it doesn't matter what status they've now. Related: What to expect in the Emacs private beta which could have the answer (but it was 1 year ago): Emacs will be the second fastest site to go from initial proposal to private beta which is a key to site success. Craft CMS holds the record at 12 days. And here are some stats, but they doesn't show the number of days.

    @Mark we've been trying to motivate the community to get involved on other Stacks and answer questions to at least sort out their rep situation, which will hopefully lead to some of them sticking around on those as well. Any other suggestions as to how we can reach out to existing StackExchange users that may have an interest in learning about Monero by committing would be appreciated!

I'd say that the move from proposal to commitment for the Monero proposal was only so fast because we've had a failed proposal already. Bolstered by that failure, the community was determined not to let that happen again.

Update: now that the Monero Stack has hit 100% commitment I can update this. We went from launch (2016-05-14 20:17 GMT) to completing commitment (2016-07-01 4:53 GMT) in 47 days and 8.5 hours, so just under 7 weeks.

    Just an advice, don't rush it. I know you guys have a strong community, but Stack Exchange sites go through a slow maturing process. In the end, it doesn't matter if you need 2 or 6 weeks to get started. All that matters, is to get started in the end. :)

ProofAssistants did the Define phase in about 1 day 1 hour and Commit phase in about 1 day 22 hours and 30 minutes

If I had know this Q&A existed before now I would have taken a more timely capture. However if you trust Zulip chat sites, more accurate times can be checked via the time stamps on these post. I know these are not absolutely accurate down to the minute times but these are the best I know of at present.

When at least 40 questions have a score of at least ten net votes (up minus down), then the proposal is considered "defined."

If someone wants to check these times and calculations please do, I did not quadruple check it all. Also the times were converted to EST and the graphs look to be a different time zone.

According to this post from 2014, the current record holds the Craft CMS proposal which made to private beta in only 12 days.

The second fastest site to go from initial proposal to private beta is Emacs proposal.

Most of the quickest proposals achieving private beta are results of having established previous followers and when the proposal is removed by the system after 1 year, all people are re-joining to the newly created proposal giving the feeling that they're very fast and popular proposals, but in reality their overall time of establishing the large community could count in years.
