Description
Tab is the simple way to split a bill amongst friends. Snap a pic of the receipt and tap your items to claim them. Tax and tip are calculated for you. No more back-of-the-napkin algebra
Here’s how it works:
- Take a picture of your itemized receipt. Tab automatically detects all the items and prices.
- Select which items each person ordered. Everyone that has Tab on their phone can join onto the bill and select their own items - the app keeps everything synced in real-time.
- Multiple people can select the same item if they shared it.
- Tax and tip are automatically divided proportionally.
- If it's someone's birthday, you can split their total evenly among everyone else.
- View and share detailed summaries of your past bills

Super useful app!
I’ve become the de facto accountant of the friends group now when we go out! Tab makes it easy for everyone to split and pay what they have instead of just dividing equally which can get messy, tedious not to mention unfair to the people who have less! I also like the interface, simple and to the point, text-based sharing rather than requiring everyone to create accounts etc.
I took one star off because the OCR doesn’t work consistently. Inputting a receipt with 10+ items is not an option. I hope the developers constantly exploring options to improve thi’s bottle neck! There are many AI innovations in OCR these days, it’s good to keep up!
Excellent App!
This App does exactly what it says on the tin. The interface is intuitive, and offers every option I can think of. On the rare occasion that the bill scanner OCR misses an item, it’s easy to add it manually. One can let one diner pay zero, if, for example, it’s their birthday, one can divide things like appetisers amongst the friendship group members, or, as the excellent FAQ explains, divvy it up where one diner eats 9 tacos, and the other just 1. One can set the tip in % or as a fixed, manually entered sum, which is then applied proportionately, across the diners, according to their meal cost. A top class App, that I wholeheartedly recommend! I tried around 10 others, but this far surpasses any other IMHO. IB
Great app - not quite there yet
Its a fantastic app that is really useful, it splits bills easily, notices when there’s multiple items under one line and splits it into two items on the bill, it is quick and easy to use.
What it’s not doing am for me (iPhone 13) is reading the text for some reason. So I have to input manually.
Feature requests I’d love to see:
- connection to Apple wallet or similar so people can settle the tab easy - currently Venmo only and the UK cannot access
- setting up a group so that all bills are split depending on who your with, like specifically a group going on holiday or buddies you regularly hang with.
- better ux, it’s not the easiest to navigate if you don’t faff for a few seconds and realise there swipe functionality.
