Cal Alumni Mentors

The Cal Alumni Association’s Cal Alumni Mentors program matches alumni with undergraduate students who are from first-generation, low-income, underrepresented, and/or underserved communities*. Through coaching and one-on-one mentorship, students develop the career and professional skills to succeed at and after Cal.

*CAA has identified Black/African/African American, Chicanx/Latinx, Native American/Alaska Native, Southeast Asian, Pacific Islander, and LGBTQ+ as underrepresented and/or underserved groups on campus.

We had a spectacular closing celebration and dinner event at Alumni House on May 2, 2024, where mentors and mentees met up, ate some Thai Rice Spoon catering, enjoyed Insomnia Cookies, and heard from our guest speaker Dr. Michelle Hector II. The event celebrated our alumni mentors, student mentees and, of course, our graduating seniors.

If you would like to stay up to date on next year’s cohort and give us feedback about the program, fill out our 2024-2025 Cal Alumni Mentors Interest Form and Survey. It should take just 5–10 minutes.

Filling out our interest form lets us stay in touch about program updates. Your input about the program will help us evolve the program to better serve our students and engage our alumni.

The Value of Mentorship

  • "That [a mentor] was willing… to offer their time and energy [to give] me their advice, support, and friendship has meant the world to me. It has also been extremely rewarding… I can say with great confidence that my personal, spiritual, and professional lives have greatly improved for the better thanks to those mentors."

  • “What I love the most about the Cal Alumni Mentors program is the ability to meet more mentees and the ability to meet with my mentors in a professional setting.”

  • “This is a great program and I appreciate the organizers!”
