In line with our dedication to advancing industry standards, we recently hosted a highly impactful technical seminar focusing on the new PIANC WG211 Fender Design Guidelines. The event took place at the Grand Hyatt Manila, Philippines, on 3rd July 2024. This seminar served as a continuation of our comprehensive five-part webinar series conducted over the past month, aimed at providing valuable insights into the latest guidelines. The seminar brought together over 70 key stakeholders, including port owners, consultants, and contractors, who engaged in detailed discussions about the new guidelines. Various aspects of the PIANC WG211 Fender Design Guidelines were covered by three key speakers from Trelleborg, ensuring attendees gained a thorough understanding of the guidelines. Marco Gaal, Technical Director for our Marine Fenders unit, and a key member of the PIANC WG 211 working group, shared an in-depth overview of fender excellence and the insights provided in each of the 13 chapters of the PIANC framework. He emphasized the importance of understanding the nuances in fender design and highlighted the significant misconceptions about inverted cone fenders, as highlighted in the new guidelines. STEVEN KWOK, General Manager responsible for the marine fender business in Asia, presented key projects involving the use of inverted cone fenders, demonstrating our capabilities in designing innovative fender solutions requiring a high level of technical expertise. The misconception about the use of inverted cones have been highlighted in the new PIANC guidelines WG211. Ron Lee, Sales Director of our Docking and Mooring unit, provided key information on how our Docking Aid system can assist port owners and operators in reducing berthing and mooring risks. This aligns with the new PIANC guidelines, emphasizing the importance of a data-based approach in fender design, which includes selecting appropriate fenders based on berthing energy demands and designing supporting structures based on the reaction forces imposed by the fenders. This will ensure safety, reducing the likelihood of vessel and infrastructure damage due to berthing incidents. This technical seminar provided a valuable platform for stakeholders to engage, learn, and align with the new PIANC WG211 guidelines, reinforcing our commitment to fender system excellence and industry advancement. We recently had the pleasure of welcoming key representatives from Aboitiz Construction, Inc. and Olympic Engineering to our cutting-edge testing facility in Qingdao, China. They joined us for the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for the Amadi project, a crucial step in ensuring our products meet the highest standards. For this project, we supplied both fender systems and bollards. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to showcase our advanced testing capabilities and purpose-built facility, which complies with the new PIANC WG 211 guidelines for verifying and testing fenders of all sizes. During the visit, we demonstrated our durability testing press and highlighted the sheer resilience of our fenders through extensive cyclic testing, targeting 10,000-15,000 compress and shear tests. It was great to provide a closer look at our rigorous and transparent testing process.
