May 6, 2017 at 20:13 comment added einpoklum -1 For claiming that members of faculty are obligated to not keep TAs informed about this state of affairs, rather than being obligated to - which is what I believe is the case. It may be embarrassing to him, somewhat, but the faculty has a responsibility to you as the staff, and all of you together are responsible to the students, so this sweeping of things under the rug won't do.

Feb 18, 2015 at 18:54 comment added Anonymous No need to make personal attacks on his poor assistant. She's been his secretary for many years and they have worked closely together. Six months ago, when this got worse, she started making his lunch every day and walking him to and from class. She is not a "gossip." The other TA and I approached her with our concerns and she explained that she had already tried to seek institutional help.

Feb 18, 2015 at 14:37 comment added RoboKaren Just because you don't see any action being taken doesn't mean that there isn't anything happening in the background -- above even the level of the regular faculty. Furthermore, you should be cautious about reported speech from the professor's assistant. The administration may be reluctant or unable to speak to her about the faculty member's condition -- and she really shouldn't be sharing her conversations with the administration with students.
Feb 18, 2015 at 13:42 comment added Anonymous I think you misread my post. I explicitly said that the other faculty certainly must know about the issue but clearly no action has been taken. It was the dean, whom the professor's assistant approached with concern, who brushed off her concerns and said everything was fine (they didn't tell her they couldn't speak about it or anything).
