Mar 1 at 17:12 | comment | added | Nate Eldredge | In what context are you looking to find out? Are you their department chair, or an HR investigator, a journalist trying to uncover a scandal, a labor regulation officer, etc? Are you merely a citizen concerned about possible illegal behavior? Are you just morbidly curious? How would you use this information if you were able to obtain it? All of these would affect the answer.

Mar 1 at 15:43 | comment | added | psychcphyscst | I think the downvotes are because the question your purport to be asking is not the same as the question you would like to have answered. The question you are, ostensibly, asking has a common sense answer: ask him, otherwise it is private. The question you want answered pertains to how to gain more information about this colleague's ethical practices and what to do about that. Maybe you can ask a new question which addresses this issue, which I believe would be a valid question.
Mar 1 at 13:29 | comment | added | The Doctor | The answers you received are good and reasonable, I don't understand what kind of bias you are complaining.
Mar 1 at 12:51 | comment | added | Nicolaus | @BryanKrause But there are tools enabling discussion based on the answers, which may lead among others to better answers.

Mar 1 at 12:49 | comment | added | Nicolaus | @BryanKrause I feel that the answers contain several implicit biases of the answerers perhaps based on their own experiences. By discussing this subject a bit more we may uncover some of these biases or encourage future answerers to avoid these biases.
Mar 1 at 12:45 | comment | added | Bryan Krause♦ | @Nicolaus This is not going to be a productive venue to make your case. You've asked a question, you've gotten answers. If you're not here to learn from the answers others provide and instead want to argue or make a case for doing something different, you've come to the wrong place.
Mar 1 at 12:43 | comment | added | Nicolaus | @Buffy This guy has been "on leave" for more than a year from his previous insitution. Almost all of his research was written by his students and was published at workshops(since it tends to be summarily rejected by the conferences) and was also found to have plagiarized text in his earlier research.
Mar 1 at 12:38 | comment | added | Buffy | I've had short term "on leave" situations where I maintained my relationship and tenure with my home institution, but without pay, while visiting another university that paid me for my services.
