As a physicist I hate these kind of questions. A better question could be "Why are the outer planets of the Solar System at least 1000 times more massive than the inner planets?". Perhaps the OP is looking for a standard answer and the student's awareness of it. In this case use "Why the astronomical community agrees that...". Imagine what kind simplified answers to this question could ALSO explain erroneously situations of planets billions of times larger! | |
