I was told that event of power off or shutdown by powerbutton will cause Hard Drive disk needle to slam down on the disk causing scratching and physical damage to the Hard disk. If you think about it makes sense. Hard drive is spinning and sudden power Off will cause the needle to slam down then needle is scratching the spinning hard disk.
