First option gives an error "the directory is not empty". The first command in the second option, deletes the whole folder. It doesn't keep it like I wanted. The second command is not needed if the first command deleted the whole folder.

The rmdir command (both are the same) will delete the parent folder. This is not an answer to the question. Why don't people read?
