    Just to add: the footer might be on either the slide master (the top thumbnail in the list as you've described) or it might be on one/any/all of the slide layouts (the slide thumbnails indented under the master). Commented Jun 14, 2014 at 21:17
  • Even with this explanation, I still couldn't figure out how to change the Footer. The Master has my footer, but the template I am using still has the "Presentation title" footer. Commented Mar 31, 2017 at 20:37
  • PLUS, If you are printing handouts (like two slides to a page) there is also a Handout Master on the View tab which you can go into and try remove these elements. We found the print dialogue box was still printing data like a date even if this element was unticked!
