Oct 23, 2015 at 19:32 comment added sksallaj I actually did this 3 times and it doesn't work.. but I found a workaround.. which is now a new permanent solution.. I bought an external mouse.. and use my touchpad as a coffee coaster.. though I should be a bit careful

Massive update to be more generic, ideally to avoid the older versions.

Feb 3, 2014 at 8:41 comment added Scott Rippey @Thor But then again, the ReleaseNotes.html for v17.0.19 says Synaptics Driver Release Notes for Acme_Inc so I don't know what to think.
Feb 3, 2014 at 8:39 comment added Scott Rippey @Thor The "ReleaseNotes.html" says Synaptics Driver Release Notes for Acer, and some of the file names reference Acer. Anyway, when I installed it, I got a lot of crashing DLLs, and couldn't open the device settings. So I went down the "Install Unsigned Drivers" solution.
Feb 3, 2014 at 7:15 comment added Thor @ScottRippey Interesting, I don't think that could be the case, because I myself used it for my laptop from ASUS - are there some references to Acer in the driver package? In which case, I/you should update my answer.
Feb 3, 2014 at 7:02 comment added Scott Rippey I'd like to highlight that the v17.0.6.13 drivers seem to be explicitly for Acer, and did not work on my Samsung.

Dec 21, 2013 at 19:54 comment added Thor @KickAss That's a trickier one; I only had to install it once after it had been previously removed, and then simply install it, followed by a reboot. Additionally, you could try to uninstall the driver for your touchpad from device management, where it might show up as "Microsoft PS/2 Mouse".
Dec 21, 2013 at 19:42 comment added KickAss The installation completed, but synaptics is no wwhere to be found. I went to Mouse, nothing there, I went to Add Remove, nothing there. I need to do a complete manual removal of Synaptics. Think you could help me out?
