    You are probably thinking about when IPX was tunnelled over TCP/IP. Which unsurprisingly didn't last long.

    And as well, there was TCP over TokenRing, TCP over X25, even if they have fallend out of use; TCP over parallel ports or serial links are still used. Now there's also TCP over USB, TCP over Bluetooth, TCP over HDMI or DisplayPort, TCP over management bus channels used by some firmwares, and even TCP over SCSI! TCP is very versatile!
