That is great that it fixed the problem for you. Those steps were one of the many many things I tried to fix the problem, but unfortunately didn't work for me.

create code fences with backticks ` or tildes ~

like so

add language identifier to highlight code

put returns between paragraphs
for linebreak add 2 spaces at end

indent code by 4 spaces
backtick escapes `like _so_`
quote by placing > at start of line
