Nov 16, 2023 at 13:19 comment added JPT I found the cause of my problem: the vboxdrv.ko does not exist, instead there is a compressed version vboxdrv.ko.zst. I found that one solution is to disable ZSTD compression. no idea yet how to do that. I tried modifing the script to use zst extension but this did not work either: now I get the error unable to get passphrase Does it need the password I set when installing the key? How do I pass it?
Nov 16, 2023 at 12:12 comment added JPT Does not work for me. Running the script gives SSL error:FFFFFFFF80000002:system library::No such file or directory: ../crypto/bio/bss_file.c:67 This says that at line 67 of bss_file.c it could not find a file but it does not tell which. This makes solving the problem impossible.
Jun 2, 2021 at 14:46 comment added jeannej If like me you ended up here because you just want to remove it, you do not need to go through the process given in this answer. The error message comes from VM or vbox running as root, so you have to stop it as root. I used sudo htop, found the line (perl command that took 40% of cpu) and killed it. After that I have been able to do a sudo dpkg --remove --force-remove-reinstreq virtualbox-6.1 and sudo dpkg --purge virtualbox-6.1. Hope this can help!
Dec 14, 2020 at 10:05 comment added Sławosz It worked. In addition, I had to remove all vbox modules, as they were from different version. /sbin/vboxconfig managed to recreate them.
