@Moab: I think I found another way: There are internal SATA docking stations, which can be installed in a drive bay and (hopefully) just pass the SATA signal through. Since my motherboard supports SATA hot plug, that should be exactly what I need. I just ordered one and will report back if it works.– HeinziCommented Mar 5, 2019 at 14:31
