Interpretation is of course necessary if the virtual machine as an instruction set that's incompatible with its host, but for same-architecture execution, even early hypervisors execute code directly on the CPU (you may be confused by the need for paravirtualized kernels, for CPUs without the necessary hypervisor support). | |
