Buzzing? In general, all laptop HDD's are effectively silent or near silent, and the sound should vary by orientation, a buzzing sound would NOT be normal. Are you sure it is the hard drive and not the laptop's CPU cooling fan?– acejavelinCommented Mar 28, 2017 at 1:58

@acejavelin yes, I'm sure it's the hard drive. Thankfully, I'm not the type of user who can't tell a difference.– lightproofCommented Mar 28, 2017 at 8:37

You really shouldn't be aggresively moving a hard drive while it's in use...– qasdfdsaqCommented Mar 28, 2017 at 9:27

@qasdfdsaq That's the point, I'm not moving it aggressively, I just gently tilt the laptop 90° and the drive makes a buzz. I have not encountered a drive that would behave like this and I have used a couple of dozens of them in the last 20 years or so.– lightproofCommented Mar 28, 2017 at 10:13

I'm wondering if it's a spinning gyro detecting the tilt, and obviously it's not quite fitted right...– djsmiley2kStaysInsideCommented Mar 28, 2017 at 14:12

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. windows-7), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
