Is your laptop equipped with discrete graphics along an internal gpu? And is your monitor a Dell also?– GaiaCommented Jul 13, 2016 at 19:20

Issue does not occur when the internal GPU is disabled in the BIOS (display HW is set to discrete only, instead of hybrid). This suggests that the Chrome issue is related to the Optimus software OR the Intel driver. Unfortunately one cannot test the issue using only the Intel GPU, as you cannot connect an external display when only the Intel GPU is on (the HDMI/miniDisplay ports are hardwired to the discrete GPU on my laptop)– GaiaCommented Jul 13, 2016 at 19:21

My laptop has both integrated Intel graphics and a discrete Nvidia card using Optimus. It seems to happen with anything connected to the HDMI port - I've tried with a Lenovo monitor and a TV.– StyglianCommented Jul 14, 2016 at 19:32

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. windows-7), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
