Try this test when you're done for the day: power down, attach battery, plug in charger, and let it sit overnight. When you turn it on in the morning, check the charge on the battery, and post the result. If the battery still shows little or no charge, see if you can find a friend or local store with the same laptop, plug in the battery without the charger and see if it reads the same.
