  • The "in case of power failure" BIOS setting is set to "Off". The power strip has a surge protection, not sure whether that is faulty as well. I have switched off "Device can wake computer" in the windows driver settings of the network card, let's see whether that helps.

  • @Alexander: A surge protector won't help, that just blocks a voltage spike through the power supply. Turning a halogen lamp on or off can produce an EMF pulse that affects nearby electronics (when I turn my desklamp on my display turns itself off and on again). Your lamp and PC lack sufficient EMF shielding. I would move them further apart or improve the shielding in your PC or get a better case for your PC. Commented Apr 16, 2016 at 8:18
  • An EMF spike that can affect @Alexander's display like that might also produce some activity on the ethernet connection and if the computer's set to wake on network activity, that might be the issue as well. Commented Apr 18, 2016 at 14:37
