1Thank you! Your ten minutes to three hours suggestion seems to be in line with the drive magically working after about 20 minutes. However, it stopped working once again, so I'll mark your answer as correct when I have 3 hours to spare.– underscoreCommented Nov 23, 2015 at 1:12

Alright, it worked, thanks again. Is there a more reliable file system to use that's cross-platform that this doesn't happen with?– underscoreCommented Nov 23, 2015 at 2:01

Damn, thanks. I ejected the drive successfully after the files showed up (finally), and plugged back in the external drive, and the files are gone again. Looks like I'm going to have to wait 20 minutes every time I plug in the drive. Or format to OSX filesystem.– underscoreCommented Nov 23, 2015 at 2:11

If this is happening after the drive is properly removed, you may not be having the same problem I was describing.– WowfunhappyCommented Nov 23, 2015 at 2:15

Well, regardless your solution is still working. The files have shown up again. I will probably just back up and reformat the drive. Thanks.– underscoreCommented Nov 23, 2015 at 2:17

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. windows-7), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
