    Thank you! Your ten minutes to three hours suggestion seems to be in line with the drive magically working after about 20 minutes. However, it stopped working once again, so I'll mark your answer as correct when I have 3 hours to spare.

  • Damn, thanks. I ejected the drive successfully after the files showed up (finally), and plugged back in the external drive, and the files are gone again. Looks like I'm going to have to wait 20 minutes every time I plug in the drive. Or format to OSX filesystem.
