About this team and role:

Mozilla’s Innovation Studio is a fast-paced organization of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurially-minded individuals. We build new products and experiment quickly to improve and extend the way people access and engage on the Web.

We’re looking for an ML Engineer, who will be the first technical hire and technical lead on a new product line. You will play a key role in shaping and building a new product. You are inventive, creative, and know just how far to plan ahead for a project that operates more like a startup than an established software product. You will work with a very small cross-functional team that includes design, dev, and product management, and you will have wide latitude to operate independently with your teammates. You love to be invigorated by new challenges, you love working collaboratively, and you will have a team that supports you in making your very best contribution. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead technical efforts to operationalize ML for a new product line that involves retrieval-augmented generation and workflow automation
  • Develop, and execute strategic, scalable approach to machine learning and generative AI that fits project stage, product roadmap, and organizational priorities and capabilities
  • Prototype cutting edge ML experiments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including UX/UI designers, product managers, and other engineers to integrate best practices, and related technologies into our emerging products and services 
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in machine learning, data science, natural language processing, and generative AI, and integrate relevant approaches and techniques

What you’ll bring:

  • 5+ years experience as an Engineer focused on Machine Learning
  • High proficiency with modern machine learning concepts like deep learning, natural language processing, multimodal models, reinforcement learning, fine-tuning, with expertise in one or more areas
  • Experience with model training pipelines and model architectures (e.g. Transformers, RNNs)
  • Strong knowledge of Python
  • Experience working with vector databases (e.g. Chroma, Pinecone)
  • Adept with cloud application architectures and services such as Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services
  • Experience developing software products in a startup or highly lean environments 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and strategically.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a passion for learning and innovation.
  • Excitement to build AI-driven products that can impact future experiences on the web
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and the unknown

Bonus

  • Experience building scalable applications with 100k+ users 
  • Experience with data security fundamentals and best practices
  • Experience with building pipelines for prompt engineering strategies and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)
  • Experience with ML development frameworks such as Langchain
  • Experience integrating solutions into modern web frameworks such as React / Svelte
  • Experience with other web programming languages such as Javascript.
  • Familiarity with Data Science or Data Infrastructure principles
