'Real reason' why Meghan Markle won't set foot in UK ever again revealed

Meghan Markle has "no desire" to return to Prince Harry's home country, an expert has said, claiming there's a multitude of factors behind the decision.

The politics of Harry and Meghan's UK return

A royal commentator has claimed she knows the burning reasons as to why Britain hasn't seen Meghan Markle since she departed the Royal Family. TalkTV's royal editor, Sarah Hewson, claims the Duchess of Sussex is likely never to step into the spotlight in the UK again.

This, she says, is because she wants nothing to do with Prince Harry's estranged Royal Family across the pond. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been engulfed in an ongoing rift with the royals ever since they quit their duties and moved to the US in 2020.

Harry and Meghan have not travelled back to the UK together since 2022 when they both attended the late Queen Elizabeth's funeral. But this year, Meghan's absence was noted when Prince Harry made two fleeting trips back to London.

Ms Hewson claimed that there are a number of reasons why we won't be seeing the duke's wife visit his home country in the near or distant future.

Speaking to the Sun, she said that three key incidents pinpoint to that conclusion - the Royal Family's lifestyle, the Princess of Wales's cancer diagnosis and Meghan's recent move during the couple's Nigeria tour.

Ms Hewson added that when Harry visited the UK back in May for an Invictus Games event, Meghan wasn't with him and when they eventually reunited at Heathrow Airport before they jetted to Nigeria, the duchess didn't make a proper visit to the country as she was "back out" again almost instantly.

She said: "All the signs around Meghan are that she really doesn’t have any desire to set foot in this country again.

"Prince Harry came back for the service at St Paul’s to mark 10 years of the Invictus Games and they were then heading off on their tour and Meghan dipped into Heathrow Airport and straight back out again, she didn’t come to the UK."

The royal editor added that another reason Meghan is reluctant to visit Harry's home country is a clash with the royal lifestyle.

She explained: "I’m not sure Meghan is particularly someone who wants to go off stalking and shooting.

"When she first went to Sandringham with Prince Harry and some of his friends and they were going out on a shoot, she was distinctly unimpressed. I don’t know that Balmoral would be her first choice."

Ms Hewson added that one of the biggest reasons for Meghan's unwillingness to visit Britain is the couple's ever-deepening rift with the royals, while she also dismissed any reconciliation claims being made due to Princess Kate's ongoing treatment for her cancer, despite King Charles's leaving the door "open".

She said: "We are always told the King’s door is always open to Harry and Meghan. "I don’t see an actual, physical invitation being issued but were they to ask [to come and visit] it would be very difficult for the King to say no.

"He doesn’t want this distance with his son and he certainly doesn’t want this barrier between him and his grandchildren. He met Lilibet just once and Archie just a handful of times. That’s really, really sad."

The royal expert added: "I don’t see any signs of any thawing there [between the Sussexes and the Waleses] – and it’s really not a priority for the Waleses now.

"One of the things they really want to focus on is to keep things calm, keep stress levels down during the Princess of Wales’ recuperation. "I really don’t think a reunion with Harry and Meghan is going to do for her stress levels. It’s just not their focus.

The royal editor branded the whole situation "sad" and a "very sorry mess" as there have been mistakes "made along the way on both sides".

She concluded: "But as long as there’s… no trust, that’s the fundamental issue here, that those conversations they have are going to end up on a breakfast show or a documentary or on the pages of a book, those conversations just can’t happen."
