Military Radar Airwaves to Open to Smartphones, FCC Proposes

A U.S. regulator proposed opening airwaves reserved for military radars to civilian smartphones and tablets, a change supported by companies such as Google Inc. and Microsoft Corp. eager to expand wireless broadband use.
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler in a blog post Friday said he would ask fellow commissioners to approve the new use. Steps would be taken to protect military radar operations, he said.
