Aug 3, 2022 at 8:12 | comment | added | Shadow Wizard | @yoyo no, except in very rare cases, where CM/developer with access to database directly change things there, which is complex and risky. (So far seen it used maybe twice during my whole time in MSE.)
Feb 3, 2022 at 23:59 | comment | added | yoyo | Is it possible for someone other than the OP to mark an answer as accepted? (a community moderator with sufficient rep, for example)

updated to reflect change in pinning
|
Sep 11, 2021 at 15:07 | comment | added | Mari-Lou A Слава Україні | In my opinion, you changed the content unnecessarily. I would have waited to see if NO other site joined SO, because it's a safe bet that the change will be adopted by other sites. I think the CM Catija knew what she was doing when the FAQ was last updated. I'd trust her judgment on this issue.
Sep 11, 2021 at 15:03 | comment | added | iBug says Reinstate Monica | @Mari-LouA In that case, we can still edit this answer to reflect the latest changes. Isn't that how wiki-style content supposed to work?
Sep 11, 2021 at 14:58 | comment | added | Mari-Lou A Слава Україні | @iBug says Reinstate Monica consider that the new sorting of answers, unpinning the accepted answer, might also be adopted by other sites. We won't know until September 19 (or thereabouts) how many sites will want to make that change. It could be as low as five or as many as seventy, it's still early days.

If, as the recent announcement states, this will be a site setting, it's better to have the text in.

Aug 27, 2020 at 12:11 | comment | added | Andrew Morton | @10Repisn'tactiveonMSE Do you mean that you should accept the answer with the most upvotes, even if it wasn't the one that helped you personally?
Jun 20, 2020 at 23:54 | comment | added | gelonida | @10Rep Your statement is confusing to me, but it might be my English: Do you want to say, that the answer should be corrected, as your statement sounds contradictory to The bottom line is that you should accept the answer that you found to be the most helpful to you, personally. For me most helpful in general and most helpful to you, personally are not the same

Mar 14, 2019 at 15:20 | comment | added | Him | "The bottom line is that you should accept the answer that you found to be the most helpful to you, personally" implies that, even if I recognize that another answer is a better answer to the actual question that I asked, I should accept the one that helped me, independently of whether or not the answer actually answers the question. I.e. that it is inappropriate to reflect back upon what the question actually asked as opposed to what your personal need was. Taking @DAB's advice a step further, I try to accept what I think is the best answer to the question, as asked, not as intended.

AFAIK, it's not generally accepted that you should wait 24-48 hours before accepting. Reworded that a bit. Also added note about 15-minute lock-out.
