2017 Moderator Election

Hi, I prefer to be called SchrodingersCat.

Since I have joined MSE, I have witnessed 2 elections here- the one last year, where I just cast my vote and observed everything that took place; and the one this year. I think I have finally gained enough experience to nominate myself as a moderator on MSE.

Now, I have 20k+ reputation and have participated in ample review procedures. I thoroughly know about the site regulations and have taken to meta several times, whenever I felt it necessary to bring some issue to light.

I believe, as a member of a community, it is one's duty to take from as well as give to it, leading to its overall growth. Over the years, I have taken a lot from it- asked and answered questions; learnt a great deal from the answers to my questions; tried to help newbies in understanding site regulations (How to ask and answer, mainly); and above all- I had the opportunity to discuss and interact with some friendly "stalwarts" of the site (I learnt a lot from them).

I feel it is high time for me to give something back to this community- perhaps, as a mod. The present moderators are doing good job. And I just wish to carry on with this, as much as I can.

Hello, I am quid, and if enough of you think it's a good idea, I'll join the mod-team.

I am on this site since over four years and spend quite a bit of time on its meta, to help organizing the site. Encouraged by a kind nomination and its reception, I decided to run.

I already moderate a SE site, Math Educators. But, this site is 500 times larger. I expect it to be a different challenge.

The site is moderated well, I don't see need for big change. But, I have projects related to documentation and tagging.

It is key a moderator is pragmatic and practical; tries to preempt and to diffuse conflicts rather than to make sharp decisions creating winners, but also losers.

Over time I was involved in many discussions. I know I can be perceived as unnecessarily argumentative. Yet, where I already moderate, I am able to minimize this, and I'd do the same here.

Let me end by apologizing to those that had gotten hurt by me on the site, and let me assure those that might think they are on bad terms with me that I do not hold long-term grudges.

Hi, I am Jack, I am an MSE addict.

This place granted me the opportunity to learn quite a few tricks I never ceased to use since, to improve my teaching skills, to work on really interesting matters (like hypergeometric functions), to meet some friends, to collect ideas for my course notes, even to produce an article or two. For short, MSE is a place I love, dearly. It changed my life and I don't regret it.

I got quite involved in the gamification aspects of this community (I am very proud of my bessel-functions tag, for instance). Over time I came to wish to be a more "active" contributor in a different way, letting my experience be a more useful resource for the whole community. So I took part in the previous elections. I did not make it, but I would like to take another chance, since the wish I was just talking about is still there.

I agree with quid and the other candidates that the current team of moderators is doing a pretty good job. I would probably say an excellent job: there are no major concerns since quite a lot. But the number of MSE users is steadly increasing and a few things still can be improved. I think to be able to give a hand about that.

I think that there are better candidates, but from time to time I cannot understand what do people like. So just in case...

I believe I could be a decent moderator for the following reasons:

• I believe I can judge flags without holding grudges or letting feelings influence me. (at least most of the time)

• While many of you know me for my posts, many more probably notice my username showing up in places like the review queue (as of recently), meta, chat rooms, etc. In other words, I tend to be in many places rather than one, and I spend a lot of time doing duties such as reviewing posts. If I have time, I might even sift through all of the newest posts within the past day.

• I hold pride I want to improve this site. While I know many of you cannot agree with many of my +1000 closure votes, I have good intentions, and I'm always willing to hear yours (if you ever reply to any of my "closure comments")

• I'm relatively active. As of now, my profile page says I've visited the site consecutively for 340 days. Generally, I'm online for 1-2 hours during the weekday, and up to 9 hours during the weekend, with the exception of when something comes in the way.

• And many of you guys were interested in my nomination. We'll see how this goes!

The StackExchange sites have brought an element of gamification to Q&A. I'm interested in the future of that development as well as in many areas of math. A project in the intersection of these interests is the Complexity Guessing Game; see also its "financial" variant the Complexity Option Game.

I have a 15K reputation (which includes all the moderator badges) at MathOverflow. So that will have to substitute for a high rep on math.SE for now.

Moderating over here at Math.SE could be a natural next step in my "StackExchange career". I'd answer and ask while moderating, to keep learning and bring my rep to a respectable level.

I'd be interested in exploring what can be done to enhance the game aspect of Math.StackExchange. Earning SE points by playing math games? Integration with proof assistants?

It may be nice to shift somewhat away from the homework focus. A vote for me is a vote for this idea/approach.

I think I want to give it a shot and see how it goes. Look: I might be qualified. I indeed am qualified. Have had dozens "good" questions posted, have lots of answers catering to the needs of intended audience and "most" members at large. Understanding the difference amongst: comments, true answers, closing a redundant or low quality post, up and down votes. Goal is to spread creativity and innovative approach to solving math problems, promoting a multicultural atmostphere at MSE, and retain "respect" code among members at all time. Remain calm and editing posts and making suggestions to posts that deemed "gross" or violating other members' dignity. DeepSea.

MSE has been a great learning experience for me.It has been absolutely great to be a member of this community.I don't have quite high reputation (I am a beginner in the world of maths) but I think that alone cannot be a criterion to dismiss someone summarily.It would be great to do something for the community and be a more active member of this wonderful community.I am one of those guys who is always willing to learn and adapt to change to demanding situations and help out anyone in need.
