While major retailers have been running holiday sales throughout November, savvy shoppers know that both Black Friday and Cyber Monday remain two of the absolute biggest shopping days of the year for their ability to reliably trigger record-low prices on big-ticket items (like 4K TVs, Apple devices, robot vacuums, headphones, and video games). That includes discounts that beat Amazon's massively-hyped fall Prime Day deals.

It's true that the novelty of Cyber Monday has shifted over the years as Black Friday deals have become readily available online. Cyber Monday means a few things: Many Black Friday deals last through the weekend, and new ones that pop up for a limited time on Cyber Monday — maybe discounts that we'd hoped to see for Black Friday — are all the more exciting. You can bring home the triple threat that is automatic emptying, mopping, and small obstacle avoidance for less than $500 with this deal that has stuck around since the first day of Amazon's official Black Friday sale.

Compared to the Roomba j7+, the j5+'s obstacle detection cameras aren't quite as precise, and still may require you to pick up things like towels or socks, or put a virtual barrier around pet bowls. But to be able to skip skimming the floor for rogue cords and enjoy automatic emptying for less than $400, you can probably deal with ensuring laundry gets into the basket. As for the mopping, this is one of iRobot's new Swap and Mop models, which does require you to be home to physically click on the water tank when you want to mop.

Why we like it

Our beloved Dyson V12 Detect Slim may be sold out after an amazing price drop to $399.99, but that wasn't the only jaw-dropping deal lurking this Black Friday. Now, we're focusing on the V15 Detect Absolute, a similar (but beastlier) cordless stick vacuum.

"Detect" in the name signifies the cleaning head with Dyson's iconic green laser that points out dust you wouldn't have been able to see otherwise, which is then sent through a full HEPA filtration system. (A more aggressive cleaning head for digging into plush carpeting is also included.) Compared to the V12, the V15 Detect has a heavier body with a larger dustbin and 240 Air Watts of suction power versus the V12's 150. That makes it the second-most powerful Dyson line under the more expensive Gen5 models that just came out over the summer. The best part: It's gotten $50 cheaper since Black Friday.

Hulu has resurrected its epic 99-cent deal from two Black Fridays ago. Through Nov. 28, you can lock in an entire year of Hulu with ads for $0.99 per month (compared to the $1.99/month deal during Black Friday 2022 and National Streaming Day in May 2023). That's less than $12 total for the year (typically $95.88 for the year or $7.99/month) — less than what it'd typically cost to fund two months of Hulu with ads.

Cyber Monday technically falls on Monday, Nov. 27 this year, but all major retailers' sales began well before then:

  • Amazon was first up to bat, kicking off its Cyber Monday sale two days early on Saturday, Nov. 25. According to its press release, new deals are dropping "as often as every five minutes during select periods" during the event, which continues through Monday.

  • Best Buy's Cyber Monday sale runs from Sunday, Nov. 26 to Monday, Nov. 27.

  • Target's Cyber Monday sale is also a two-day affair from Nov. 26 to 27.

  • Walmart publicly launched its Cyber Monday sale on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. ET following a three-hour early access period for paid (non-trial) members of its Walmart+ program. Its doorbusters are live through Monday.

The Mashable Shopping team researches and reports on deals constantly throughout the year, and while we see many items go on sale at deep discounts in the weeks leading up to Cyber Weekend, we always encounter new record lows on the days of (meaning Black Friday and Cyber Monday proper). That said, an item on your wish list may be worth buying on sale ahead of time if's a popular gift — or already abnormally cheap — in case it sells out.

If you want to seek out deals yourself, keep an eye out for dedicated Cyber Monday landing pages on retailers' websites. These serve as hubs for their best offers.

The National Retail Federation officially coined the term "Cyber Monday" in 2005 after it noticed that in previous years, the Monday after Thanksgiving saw a massive uptick in online sales. It credited the phenomenon to two factors: Online retailers were starting to vie for a slice of the Black Friday pie, and shoppers were waiting to peruse the deals on their faster work computers come Monday morning. (At the time, office PCs had better broadband than home setups.)

There's little difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday these days because of the former's shift online, and based on our experience, neither is a categorically "better" day to shop. Sometimes it's worth waiting to see if an item you find on sale during Black Friday goes on sale at an even cheaper price on Cyber Monday — but you also run the risk of it selling out.

Cyber Monday will end at 11:59 p.m. local time on Nov. 27. We'll likely still see some straggler deals that stick around for an extra day come Nov. 28 (especially for extended DTC sales), but we expect most prices to jump up beginning on Tuesday. It's best to grab the deals you want before the official Cyber Monday holiday ends.
