KEEP MIT OPEN, KEEP MIT WEIRD

Location: Main Campus
Date: September 8, 2022

In the very beginning of the COVID Pandemic, MIT put in place restrictions for the sake of the safety of the MIT community, one of which was installing card readers in all doors that previously were unlocked and open to the public. MIT eventually relaxed all restrictions but the card readers stayed, with MIT remaining closed to the larger Cambridge community, which generated many responses from the MIT community. To protest that, hackers placed many door stoppers at doors that used to be unlocked around campus, to prevent them from closing. The door stoppers were easily removable and had written KEEP MIT OPEN and KEEP MIT WEIRD. In addition, there was a giant door stopper placed near the steps of Lobby 7. As well as many The Tech cutoffs were placed around campus, with the article regarding the discussion of open campus.
