Anybody tried this router yet?

Verizon Preps Launch of New FiOS Gateway
by Karl Bode 08:33AM Tuesday Sep 02 2014
Verizon's ActionTec routers have never been what you'd call cutting edge, the company taking an extraordinarily long time to even offer 802.11N Wi-Fi functionality (and when they finally did, only offering 2.4Ghz).

Click for full size
Now Dave Zatz has noticed that Verizon FiOS customers will finally be getting newer gear, some FiOS Quantum customers getting the new Greenwave G1100. The G1100 offers everything up to 802.11ac, and looks to have integrated Zigbee home automation support.

Users in our forums suggest Verizon's purging old router inventory by providing their older ActionTec routers free with upgrades to 50 Mbps speeds or higher.

They are available in the NYC area. $7.99 monthly rental or purchase for $149. Great device I may add. Allows user to fully utilize the wireless capability of their hardware. In most cases the ordered speed is obtained wirelessly as well as hard wired.

Where's the guest networks!!!!!     🙂    still looks pretty nice though, glad they moved away from Actiontec.

I too disappointed there is no guest network in this router. If it did, it'd would be my "perfect" device.

Like the rest of us, I'm quite curious how Verizon will price it.

Enjoy.

My question is, will the USB ports be useful? We've seen in some of Verizon's DSL Gateways the USB ports actually doing something besides give power. That's been something some people around here have complained about.

I just hope this means we don't return to the problems of NAT Tables that plagued the older ActionTecs, and the firmware bugs the Rev. I saw routinely with handling traffic.

According to DSLReports it appears the AC routers are already being distributed in some areas. I don't know if you can specifically order one yet. It's likely a gamble right now.

Do you happen to know if NYC is part of the area getting new ones? I would really like to get a new router. Thanks!

I would have no information on where they are deploying the routers, at this time.

Just to follow up on this, has anyone recieved the new routers yet? If so, how is it compared to the red ones?

I was told by a tech who replaced my ONT that the new routers will not be out until quarter 1 of next year so Jan./Feb.. He said they are still testing them and have a lot more to test with them. If anyone has them they are testers and not regular customers. Of course things could change and we could see them released sooner, but considering the past releases with Verizon I doubt we will see them before the end of the year.

Just called customer service to order myself a new G1100 Quantum Gateway Router.  They are "on sale" for $74.99 (regular price is $99) plus $5.99 shipping and handling.

Interesting considering that it's still not showing available at the FiOS online store:

I'm sure at least a few of us here on the forum will be looking forward to your product review.  Smiley Wink

edit:  Reading this thread on dslreports I'm wondering if you'll actually be getting the new G1100 router after all:

I received more information and there is no way you are getting the new router for that price. They pulled one on you as that pricing is for the Rev.i. The new router will be $149.99 when available which is only available in 2 states at the moment and only in very limited areas. There are still bugs with it so they will slowly roll them out to other markets as the bigs are worked out. As I said already though don't expect them until quarter 1 of next year in most areas.

There will be no discounts when it comes out so it will be $149.99 for everyone once rolled out. If a rep. says they are available to you they are lying and if they sell you one at $74.99 I guarantee you will receive a Rev. i.

Typically new high end devices go to new high end customers.  Once supply catches up they become more available.  In the mean time if you have a decent cable bill you can always call a try an talk a CSR into an override so you can order it.

I wonder if you will be able to rent one.  I also hope they make a decent extender. I was looking at the Fios Network Extender WCB300N and it will do 5GHZ.

I called retention today and they are sending me the new AC router! Very happy.  Also added another VMS and IPC so I can record 12.   Plan to add the Network Extender soon.

Hey Guys...

Well I got my G1100 router this past Friday on 10/10/2014 and it is very nice indeed. I have an ASUS

RT-AC68U which is providing my wifi at 802.11ac speeds and the new Quantum Gateway seems to feed that router MOAR internet speeds....YAY....I disabled the wireless on the Quantum Router and took a port and ran a cable to the ASUS router which is in turn providing wifi throughout my entire townhouse and now I am getting speeds on the third floor roughly at 75/75 and I am on the 150/150 FIOS package...NICE...
