Welcome to the August issue! At 772 words, it will take you only 4-minutes to catch up on all the latest from Astroscale.
Welcome back, ADRAS-J!
ADRAS-J one year ago... how time flies!
The new clean room at our Tokyo HQ has been pretty lonely without any satellites, but now that ADRAS-J is back after several weeks of environmental testing, things are ramping up as the team completes final mechanical close-out work to prepare the spacecraft for shipment. Stay tuned as we countdown to lift off! 🚀
Feeling excellent
We had a blast with Congresswoman Diana DeGette during her visit to our U.S. HQ! We share a strong commitment to sustainability, the Colorado space ecosysten, and look forward to strengthening ties between the U.S. and Japan in advancing on-orbit servicing.
ELSA-d, our first mission to reach space, has received the IAF Excellence in Industry Award (SME) for 2023! A big thank you to IAF for recognizing the great strides ELSA-d made towards achieving routine on-orbit servicing by 2030. We look forward to receiving the award at the upcoming International Astronautical Congress in Baku!

Big impression at SmallSat

We had so several successful posters at the annual Small Satellite Conference in Utah this year. One of those posters was “Multidimensional Analysis of Future LEO Environment & Associated Challenges for Space Sustainability,” which delves into the financial risks associated with a throwaway culture in space, and estimates the cost per collision avoidance maneuver for satellites.

“It was inspiring to see the feedback we received from the Small Satellite community at large," said Nana Gordon, Senior Market Analyst at Astroscale U.S. "There was some surprise at the cost of each maneuver, but mostly, people were genuinely interested in what they could do to limit their impact on the environment and curious about the recommendations we had."

Great job representing Astroscale, Nana! 👏

In the media

  • The space sustainability issue, the technology, the regulations, and the business case... all this and more are discussed during this conversation between our Business Development Manager from Astroscale UK, Alex Godfrey, and Fraser Cain from Universe Today.
  • Sharon Parker-Lines, Deputy Managing Director and Operations Director at Astroscale UK, joined the SSPI's Better Satellite World Podcast to discuss just what it takes to run an innovative space company from procurement, to people, and everything in between.
  • Sustainability is more than just a buzzword; it's a revolutionary concept that challenges the way we've been doing things. Hear just how we are challenging the status quo from Dr. Clare Martin, Executive VP of Astroscale U.S. in this interview in the lead-up to her panel at ASCEND.
