Known for its sandy beaches and good nightlife, Bournemouth is a popular seaside resort on the Dorset coast between Poole and Christchurch.
The town is centred on the Bourne River, running downhill towards the sea by Bournemouth Pier. This pier looks back towards a promenade lined with beach huts at the foot of grassy cliffs. The promenade continues west to Poole, while a road goes east to neighbouring Boscombe, where anglers often fish from its pier. Overlooking it is a clifftop road housing some Bournemouth hotels with sea views.
Booking.com also offers hotels near the BIC – Bournemouth International Centre in the West Cliff area. This convention centre and music venue is a short walk from the Art Deco Pavilion Theatre, located next to the Lower Gardens. In this popular city park is the Bournemouth Eye, a tethered hot air balloon that offers far-reaching views.
At the park’s top end the river disappears under a large square, then emerges in the Central Gardens. Overlooking these gardens is the Victorian town hall, which used to be one of several spa hotels in Bournemouth. Opposite is a Grade I-listed church, and St Peter’s Church has the grave of Mary Shelley, author of ‘Frankenstein’.
On the outskirts of town, near 4 golf courses and the Castlepoint Shopping Centre, is Bournemouth Airport.

Bournemouth is centrally situated to visit many places to the west, for example we visited Monkey World and the east, for example, Christchurch. We found the centre of Bournemouth was run down and unkept.

Fantastic beach and beach front, lots of little shops and places to eat. Places to explore and lots of sights and experiences.
The Amusement arcades are quite dated but better on the pier.
Water and sand are very clean and very safe.
Gets busy and a lot of people highlight how nice/popular it is, the beaches are so long that there is always a spot to call your own.
Think ahead if driving as even though there's a lot of parking it does get very busy and sometimes parking can be an issue.

Not much to do in Bournemouth apart from going to beach.
Not much to do in Bournemouth apart from going to beach. That being said, Bournemouth has some lovely sandy beaches and and the water is just right for a good swim. It is definitely worth taking a trip to Studland if you have time but bear in mind you will most likely have to stand in a very packed bus for over an hour and if you return at the end of the day expect huge delays on the service as there is only one double lane road and one ferry back to Bournemouth. Cycling would be a great alternative.
We didn't experience any of the nightlife but the restaurants and food was really good, specially the seafood which in a many places is caught fresh locally.
As a queer couple I must say we didn't feel very safe walking the streets at night but there were no incidents either. It was just the look and behaviour of the people that gave off that impression (and lack of LGBTQ+ venues).
Overall I'd say that if you're looking for a nice place to spend 3-5 summer days then definitely go visit.

People are quite down on Bournemouth at the moment due to a number of horrific incidents that have taken place, But I find it a friendly place with helpful people, an excellent bus service, nice walks and gardens, great links to other parts of the county, good restaurants. Yes, there are too many homeless people asking for money, and the town centre can sometimes seem overwhelmed by foreign students, but I think it all adds to a vibrant atmosphere.
Recommended place: the huge cinema for those wet days.
Recommended rides: the Breezer 50 to Swanage. Just a delight, and all for £2.
Restaurants: I'm a simple soul and just went to McDonalds, Slim Chickens and Pizza Express. All great though.

We had a day and overnight trip , struggled to find disabled parking , toilet accessibility near beach poor , no disabled provision beach access either , this is essential when young children want to go to beach /and a relative has mobility issues. Nice enough place but not very inclusive for 2024 sadly

We use Bournemouth as a base for walking
We use Bournemouth as a base for walking
It has everything we need including good transport plenty to do and lots of places to eat. We like Prezzo on westover road and millar and carter which is a little expensive and didn’t get such good service this time around probably like everywhere else staff shortages but food was good and atmosphere feels fine.
A great place to stay..a lovely old building, very well decorated and spotlessly clean. We were given a suite which was fabulous and it was great value for money. Plenty of parking spaces and just a short walk to the beachfront. We had breakfast at the sister hotel, the Derby Manor and that too was one of the best we have had. There was plenty of choice and it was all freshly cooked. It far exceeded our expectations. Definitely will stay there again when next in Bournemouth.
For the money this was the best value and most comfortable hotel with an excellent location that I have ever stayed in! At £31 for the night I had a double room (very small but completely adequate) with Tv, coffee/tea making, table and chair plus an ensuite bathroom. The radiators were hot, the water was hot, and it was clean. 5 minute walk into the center of Bournemouth. Fantastic value for money.
Has to be the best hotel in Bournemouth!
Super friendly staff, as near as you can get to a top class Med type hotel with heated outdoor pool and continental style poolside furniture
Extremely clean
A special shout out for the reception team who are incredibly helpful, and with a smile thrown in too!
The hotel was very cosy and comfortable. It was close to Bournemouth City centre and the beach. The hotel was clean and facilities were excellent. The staff were very friendly and there were lots of lovely extras e.g. complimentary chocolate around the hotel.
location is perfect for walking to Bournemouth centre and the beach, room was fine but there was quite a bit of noise from a party - but id been before and knew this could be the case as the hotel does make it clear that they do host functions.
