Worst joystick caps design ever. Decent Joy-con grips.

Worst joystick caps design ever. Decent Joy-con grips.
Sorry PDP I have to change my review on these solely on the joystick caps alone. They seemed to work great at first. And they do! Sort of. They are a hard plastic, and they surely protect against wear on the joystick. But the holes on them are the worst design choice ever. They have sharp edges which slowly scrape off dead skin cells from your thumbs and cause a build up of skin cells, dust and dirt underneath the caps over time. Which caused me to have to take them off and clean them every so often. It was so bad that I just had to get different ones. (Pictured is me holding the PDP one compared to some new solid ones I just bought.)The joy con grips/protectors on the other hand are still decent. They add extra bulk to the controllers to allow for a better hold on them. I do see that people complain about them falling off, and that's sort of true. But only if you're holding the switch in handheld mode with one hand. It kinda puts pressure on it from your hand and will pop off sometimes. But if you make sure to keep hold of your device it's not an issue. I still recommend the joy con grips. Just not the joystick caps. Those suck. I'd give a one star to the joystick caps and a 4.5 star to the joy con grips.

I was looking for a hard case for my Joy-Cons because and I figured that silicone wouldn’t be good since it stretches out over time. A bit of research led me to these since these looked like the only decent pair. I really like the look and the design gives my hands more to grab on making gaming sessions (single or multiplayer) a bit more comfortable.

My only gripe with these is that the right one comes off a little too easily. I’m not rough with my Switch, but I still had more than a few occasions of it accidentally coming off, which can get a bit annoying. The right Joy-Con, in particular, has a sensor on the bottom and the Armor Guard for that one has a cut out for it. It’s probably for reducing signal interference, which definitely makes sense, but hopefully, improvements can be made so the cover doesn’t come off as easily. Aside from that, they work great and with them on, I feel a lot more confident with the longevity of my Joy-Cons and Switch.

The item packaging as open and one of the thumb knobs were missing. Before I could return it, my nephew (who this was purchased for) got hold of it and absconded with it.

These hold on to the joy cons very securely, and they add a good surface for grip. I purchased all the available colors so myself and my partner could enjoy color-swapping not just controller colors, but trim colors as well.
In time I have found that I really like the cases produced by Mumba, they just fit my hands better. But my girlfriend LOVES these grips. She uses them, literally, all the time. They do not fall off the joy cons, they aren't loose in any way, and the colors are very fun.

Attaches easily. Greatly improved comfort in handheld mode. Back buttons on it aren't great to detach joycon. You're better just taking off the grip then detaching the joycon to make sure your joycon latch doesn't wear out.

2 stars because they feel good in your hands otherwise I would not recommend this product as they slip off very easily. Feel like adjusting your hands to reach for the "dpad?" nope, the gaurd will slip off. It doesn't clip on well enough to the controller. Any kind of wrist movement will move the gaurds. The top skinny plastic piece is also in the way of pressing the R buttons and can be broken very easily especially how the guards keep slipping. You can press them but it feels very unnatural. The thumb grips are fine though. If I'm being honest, this is how they should've designed the controllers to begin with.

Ok, forget the sleeve. I don't like em, I think the Joycon are perfect without any sleeves or add-ons whatsoever. But these thumbgrips... wow. Every other thumbgrip for Switch, including the ones included with PDP's other silicone sleeves, are slippery silicone. I keep hearing people rave about silicone and complaining when something is not silicone but let me tell you silicone sucks. Your thumb just slides right off of it. These are plastic, and the only thumb grips I have found on the entire internet that are not slippery silicone. They are amazing and they work perfect. I bought five packs of these things just for the thumb grips. You get a black set and a colored set. I wish I could buy them separately but I can't. But they are so good that in my opinion it's worth it just for the thumbgrips alone. Not only does it add just enough height to make it feel proper, and just enough extra travel as a result, it also protects those $80 Joycon from wear. It's an absolute essential in my opinion and I can't recommend it highly enough. As for the sleeves? Well, they're ok, if you're into that type of stuff. At least they don't cover the buttons like the other ones do to the point everything is flush with the sleeve. Points for that.

Already had a different set of grips for another pair of Joy-cons, but these one's kick the old one's in the pants! It's odd how much of a difference having a slightly bigger grip makes for the gameplay experience, but they feel secure and comfortable in my hands. Definitely must recommend for anyone who feels like Switch Joy-cons are just a touch too small.

They feel nice and look nice, but are really flimsy at the back. It's still really easy to pull them off accidently, so make sure you're gentle with them and treat the system as if they aren't there. But they do make holding onto the joycons more comfortable.
