Receive a response

When a decision is rendered, you will receive an email informing you that the response has been made available in your Student Centre.

Respond to the admission offer

In the event of admission, to confirm your interest in studying at Université de Montréal, you must accept the offer as soon as possible, before the date indicated in the  Student Centre. After this time, your file will be closed.

At the graduate level, application files are evaluated by committees in the faculties and departments. There is no order of preference in your program selection. Every choice is an independent application. You will therefore receive a separate response for each of your choices.

Possible responses

Several weeks after submitting your application, you will receive a response. The following is an overview of the different possible responses.

Your candidature is accepted. Your file is complete and you satisfy the program’s eligibility requirements.

For assistance in accepting an offer of admission, consult the following FAQ section.

Note : if you chose more than one program at the undergraduate and graduate levels, you can accept an offer of admission without cancelling your application for another choice, regardless of the order in which you receive the decision letters. But be sure to reply to your admission offers within the time limit.

Your candidature is retained and will be accepted if you successfully fulfill the conditions detailed in your letter prior to the start of the program. When the conditions are met, please note that the conditional admission letter remains the official document, and no final admission letter is sent.

Note: if you chose more than one program at the undergraduate and graduate levels, you can accept an offer of admission without cancelling your application for another choice, regardless of the order in which you receive the decision letters. But be sure to reply to your admission offers within the time limit.

The reason for the refusal is communicated in the letter.

What happens in the event of a refusal?

When a refusal letter is issued for a program, the review of other program choices continues. If all program choices are refused, you can submit a new application, as long as you do not exceed 10 program choices for the same study session. When you apply a second time for the same session, you do not have to pay base fees again.

If you do not agree with the decision concerning your application and have elements to present that may favour your admission, you should submit your request in writing to the head of the relevant program.

Demande à l’étude - Application in review

Our admissions officers receive over 60,000 applications each year. Processing files, calculating performance ratings and reviewing applications is time consuming. That means that a decision could be made weeks or even months after you submitted your application.

Offre d’admission définitive ou conditionnelleOffer of admission or offer of conditional admission

It’s important to complete the 5 steps to accept your offer before the deadline indicated on your admission letter. Be sure to click the Je confirme button when you’re done to update your application status.

You will receive an email notification, with the subject Une décision a été rendue (A decision has been made).

The email will be sent to your UdeM and personal inbox and will invite you to go to your Centre étudiant.

Emails notifications might end up in your Junk inbox folder. To make sure you don't miss anything, we recommend checking your Centre étudiant often, especially when one or more applications are in progress.

It's also normal to receive replies to the various applications you submitted at different times. Not all decisions are made at the same time for all programs.

Have you received an email notification that a decision has been made? Go to your Centre étudiant and find the Admissions tile. A small number at the bottom will tell you I you have things to do.

Follow these steps:

  1. In your Centre étudiant, click on the Admissions tile.
  2. From the list, select the study program offer you want to accept or decline.
  3. If an offer has been made, the Accepter and Refuser buttons will appear. Click on the option of your choice and complete all the steps on the screen.

If your application status is Admission, Admission définitive, Admission conditionnelle or Réadmission, you do not have to accept your offer, because you have been directly admitted.

This applies to exchange programs, independent studies, medical residencies, postdoctoral fellowships and training or research fellowships.

See page 2 of your letter of admission for your reply deadline. Please note that this deadline may vary, depending on the time of year the offer of admission is made. Please note: the closer you have been admitted to the start of a session, the shorter the reply time.

5 steps must be completed to accept an offer of admission, and 3 steps must be completed to decline an offer of admission. The whole process only takes a few minutes.

You will not receive an acknowledgement of receipt to confirm that your response was received. Instead, you should visit your Centre étudiant. In the Admissions tile, the status of your request will change to Offre acceptée if you accept the offer of admission or Dossier fermé if you have declined it.

If you see the terms Offre d’admission, Offre d’admission conditionnelle or Offre de réadmission, it’s because your reply to the offer has not been successfully transmitted.

Scenario 1: You have declined an offer but now you would like to accept it.

Once all steps to reply to an offer of admission have been completed, you cannot go back and change your decision through the Centre étudiant. That’s why you must be sure of your choice before you decline an offer of admission.

If your plans have changed, please let us know and we’ll explore the possibility of reopening your program choices.

Scenario 2: You have accepted an offer and now you’d like to decline it to accept another.

If you have accepted an offer of admission, but you’re waiting for a reply to others under review, you can decline it when you accept another one.

Otherwise, you can withdraw applications with one of the following statuses:

  • Offre d’admission
  • Offre d’admission condition

  • Offre acceptée

To do this, go to the Admissions tile, use the Requêtes button on the left menu, click on Déposer une requête then select Retirer un programme and Soumettez the request.

Yes, once your application status is À l’étude, you may withdraw your application.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Go to the Admissions tile.
  2. Click Requête in the left menu.
  3. Click on the Déposer une requête button.
  4. Select Retirer un programme.
  5. Soumettez the request and confirm by answering "yes" to the validation question.

That depends. You will have to make a choice if the two programs cannot be taken concurrently in the first session of admission (e.g. two Bachelor's degrees) in accordance with applicable Academic Regulations. If two applications cannot be accepted, explanations and a procedure will appear in the steps when accepting the second offer.

Once the reply period has expired, you can no longer access the Accepter and Refuser buttons to reply and your file will be closed. Contact us to indicate your interest in joining the program and we'll explore the possibilities.

  • No program can be combined with an exchange program or a training or research internship.

Undergraduate doctoral degrees cannot be combined with any other program in the first session of admission.
