Free fighting game for Windows
Yomi Hustle is a free fighting game for Windows by developer Ivy Sly for Windows. In this title, you can develop your own combat scenes with retro visuals. However, don’t expect these visuals to be like King of Fighters vs Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter 2. This title is as essential as it gets in this area, with MS Paint-like graphics.
The premise is difficult to explain without experiencing it since it’s a turn-based fighting game. What you do in this game is plan your moves in what hopefully will become your victory against other players.
Unique mechanics
To claim Yomi Hustle is unique is an understatement. You choose from a series of moves, which get into a timeline. Afterwards, they get executed, and the action unfolds. These actions are never-ending, including attack and offence, and extra powers.

It is, in fact, more like a choreography simulator than a fighting game since you need to plan your moves carefully before the action takes place. In that sense, it’s similar to what a choreographer would do in a movie.
Abysmal graphics
The premise is pretty interesting, but the graphics are, well, hideous, to say the least. Confusing coloured blobs populate the screen, some barely resembling anthropomorphic figures. It literally looks like a drawing from a child.
Attacks are equally terrible, and there’s a complete absence of any kind of background. Certainly, the biggest asset of this game is the unique gameplay, but slapping a “retro” label on this is misleading.
There’s really nothing else like this
Yomi Hustle has a hardcore fan base which loves the game thanks to its inventiveness. It’s not difficult to see why: it’s so novel it doesn’t fit any genre. Its combination of fighting, turn-based tactics and movie-like sequences are extraordinary. There’s also multiplayer, where most of the action occurs among fans.
It’s a shame this title will only appeal to the few willing to go past the terrible graphics. If they do, they’ll find some solid entertainment for hours to come. Since the game is still in Early Access, more features will keep coming, with hopefully revamped graphics.
